The Opportunity:
As the Utility Worker 3 for the Washington State University (WSU) Irrigated Agriculture Research and Extension Center (IAREC) in Prosser, WA, you will provide comprehensive support for facilities maintenance, inventory management, and safety compliance. You will perform semi-skilled repairs; coordinate, schedule, and monitor work requests; purchase and manage supplies; and complete groundskeeping and custodial tasks. You will also support seasonal farm activities, operate equipment and vehicles, and ensure accurate inventory tracking and surplus management. In addition, you will serve as the Safety Officer by overseeing workplace safety programs, conducting inspections, maintaining compliance records, and coordinating required training.
Additional Information:
This is a full time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.
Monthly Salary: $4,119 - $4,771 | Range 40G Steps G - M | Successful candidates are typically hired at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28.
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:
- Physical ability to do required work AND one year experience as a Utility Worker 2 OR equivalent education/experience.
- Two years of experience in building and/or equipment repair or maintenance or construction.
- Ability to use power tools, hand tools, heavy equipment and machinery.
- Ability to obtain forklift certification within 4-months of employment.
- Ability to obtain a pesticide applicators license within 6-months of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with inventory and surplus processes.
- Experience at a research facility or similar facility requiring lab inspections.
- Experience with safety protocols and training, including those relevant to environmental health, preferably in a lead role.
- Experience maintaining safety records.
- Knowledge of basic computer functions for communication and spreadsheet operations
