This is a part-time, as-needed position, spanning the months of August through May.
Position Summary
The driver is responsible for operating a 35-passenger bus to various events, including but not limited to, athletics. This part-time, temporary role reports to the Director of Institutional Facilities and works variable hours each week during approximately ten (10) months per year.

Physical Demands
The job responsibilities are performed primarily in a motor vehicle and/or outside. The driver is occasionally required to sit for extended periods of time, driving to and from events. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Ability to drive in all sorts of conditions including rain, snow, at night, etc. is necessary.
It also has intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward (8 - 45 pounds). Typically requires regular use of one or more physical senses of medium intensity and long duration. Must meet reasonable deadlines, quotas or demands for accuracy, and may be involved in some mildly unpleasant situations.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Commercial Driver License with Group C designation (CDL-C) with Passenger (P) endorsement - If not currently licensed, KCC may sponsor training and certification of otherwise qualified applicants
- Must be able to pass Department of Transportation (DOT) medical physical examination
- Must be insurable under institutional liability policy
- Must be able to use GPS technology
- Demonstrate effective verbal, written and listening communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to read and write for reporting standards
- Effective time and stress management skills
- Ability to perform duties with deliberate concentration and thoroughness
- Experience working with a diverse population
- Must be 25 years of age or older due to institutional liability coverage limitations
Proposed Salary
Compensation is $23.00/hour, plus overnight stipend and per diems, when applicable.
Job Duties
Essential Function: DRIVING
- Drive a 35-passenger bus to various events, primarily athletic. Assignments may require overnight and/or weekend travel.
- Maintain clean driving record (free of accidents, moving violations or points in past five years), current valid CDL-Clicense with P (passenger) endorsement, and health required to uphold DOT physical testing requirements.
- Maintain required paperwork, such as payroll records, logbooks, maintenance requests, and other required documentation.
- Cooperate with facilities and athletics staff and passengers and represent KCC in professional, respectful manner.
Essential Function: VEHICLE
- Ensure vehicle is ready for safe travel, to and from events, including, but not limited to:
- Remove trash and debris, and clean bus interior, as necessary.
- Clear aisleways and seating to ensure passenger safety.
- Report vehicle malfunctions, safety issues, and/or damage to the appropriate responsible parties.
- Ensure bus is safely and securely parked, stored, and/or travel-ready (transported equipment is secured, for example).
- Prepare vehicle and equipment for use.
- Communication devices are ready and available.
- Vehicle is fueled and stocked, as appropriate.
