Business Analyst (Level 8) plays a pivotal role in leading the analysis and design of business processes and digital solutions across multi-stakeholder initiatives. Working within a complex university environment, the position partners with business units, IT, and project teams to define business needs, assess change impacts, and deliver integrated solutions aligned with institutional goals. This role is responsible for bridging business and technology, facilitating strategic discussions, supporting the development of business cases, and contributing to the delivery of high-impact improvements across student, academic, or operational systems. The role also contributes to improving business analysis frameworks and guiding practice maturity.

Specific accountabilities for this role include:

  • Lead business analysis activities on large-scale or strategically significant projects, including requirements gathering, process mapping, and solution design.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across faculties, divisions, and technical teams to understand business drivers, document requirements, and align outcomes with institutional priorities.
  • Analyse and model “as-is” and “to-be” business processes and assess the operational and strategic impacts of proposed changes.
  • Facilitate workshops, interviews, and other discovery activities to elicit and validate stakeholder needs and pain points.
  • Define functional and non-functional requirements and ensure traceability throughout the delivery lifecycle.
  • Contribute to the development of business cases, including benefit analysis, risk assessments, and recommendations.
  • Work closely with solution architects, developers, and delivery teams to ensure feasibility and alignment with enterprise systems and integration standards.
  • Support change management by identifying stakeholder impacts and contributing to transition planning and training strategies.
  • Participate in testing phases by defining test scenarios, supporting user acceptance testing (UAT), and validating deliverables.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of business analysis standards, templates, tools, and knowledge sharing across the organisation.
  • Stay informed of higher education trends, technology developments, and best practices in digital transformation.
  • Align with and actively demonstrate the Code of Conduct and Values
  • Ensure hazards and risks psychosocial and physical are identified and controlled for tasks, projects, and activities that pose a health and safety risk within your area of responsibility.

Who you are:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
  • A minimum 3 years professional experience in business systems analysis or equivalent business experience, including well-developed business and needs analysis skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of project management methods, tools and the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Knowledge and competency in the use of professional business analysis techniques and methods (e.g. Use Case Analysis, UML).
  • Well-developed skills in the use of standard office toolsets including word processors, spreadsheets, drawing/diagramming tools (e.g. Visio), presentation tools (e.g. PowerPoint) and project management tools (e.g. MS Project).
  • Previous experience working in an ERP application development environment (either PeopleSoft, Oracle, SAP or similar) and/or a web services environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to success in providing effective solutions to business needs.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
