Business Intelligence Analyst

Do you want a role where your analytical skills drive real change? Are you confident in delivering insight that informs key decisions? If so, we want to hear from you!

We’re looking for a Business Intelligence Analyst to join the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Coordinating Centre. This is a fantastic opportunity to shape how we use data to improve health and social care research.

Who are we?

The NIHR is the UK’s largest funder of health and social care research, supporting life-changing advancements in health and social care delivery. As part of our team, you’ll play a vital role in leveraging data science to shape the future of research funding. Further information can be found at: www.nihr.ac.uk. You are encouraged to review our operational priorities and watch this introductory video.

What will you be doing?

As a Business Intelligence Analyst within our Insight Team, you’ll support the collection, analysis, and communication of data to inform NIHR’s strategy, policy, and operations. You’ll also help enhance the team’s four core services:

  • Data Service – Supporting data-driven decision-making
  • Information Request Service – Responding to urgent and routine data queries
  • Portfolio Analysis Service – Identifying research trends and gaps
  • Research & Evaluation Service – Evaluating the impact of NIHR-funded research

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Engaging with stakeholders to refine data requirements and define project scopes
  • Responding to data requests, providing accurate and timely reports
  • Managing a range of insight projects, ensuring they deliver value and impact
  • Improving processes by identifying and addressing inefficiencies

Who are we looking for?

We’re looking for an analytical thinker with strong data management skills who thrives in a fast-paced environment. Essential qualities include:

  • Experience in managing and analysing data, with the ability to interpret findings effectively
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data cleaning and analysis
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to independently organise and prioritise work
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of building strong relationships with stakeholders
  • Ability to identify trends and insights, supporting evidence-based decision-making

Desirable experience includes knowledge of data visualisation tools such as Power BI or Tableau.

What can we offer you?

We recognise that our staff are at the heart of what we do so we make sure we look after you! As well as a generous benefits package (full details here), as an organisation we prioritise your wellbeing as reflected in the Mind Workplace Wellbeing awards, where we have achieved Gold for the fifth year in a row!

Our hybrid working approach helps you with your work life balance and offers you the chance to split your time between office and home working. We strive for cohesive and collaborative teams so our expectation is you spend around 20% of your time in the office. We also know that personal development is important and have a range of ways to support you with this.

This role is offered on a full-time basis but we are open to part time working with a minimum of 28 hours per week.
