Cadet Salary Range: $51,255 annualized.
Police Officer Salary Range: $65,750 annualized.
Senior Police Officer Salary Range: $76,000 annualized, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Police Officer and Senior Police Officer
The Police Officer and Senior Police Officer provides service, information, and aid to all citizens as circumstances require, prevent crime, suppress disturbances, investigate criminal offenses, and arrest offenders.
Core Responsibilities
Cadet
- Attends classes and maintains comprehensive notebooks of subjects covered in classes.
- Prepares research papers.
- Completes homework assignments.
- Participates in the physical training program, firearms training, defensive tactics program, and practical problems.
- Participates in classroom discussions and group projects.
- Complies with the established rules and regulations governing The University of Texas System Police Academy.
- Complies with assignments and instructions given by the Director of Police, The University of Texas System, or by any member of the Academy staff.
- Complies with policies of respective component institution police departments relating to his/her status and attendance at the Academy.
- Adheres to the rules and regulations promulgated by the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System.
- Promotes safe and environmental protection by immediately reporting unsafe situations, spills, and accidents; following University safety plans/procedures/protocols; and participating in appropriate safety training.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Police Officer and Senior Police Officer
- Ensures the safety and welfare of students, employees, visitors, and all property within the area under the control and jurisdiction of The University of Texas System which serves as a Campus Security Authority as defined by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act). Exercises independent judgment within the limits prescribed by law, Rules and Regulations of the Board of Regents, institutional rules and regulations and departmental policies and procedures.
- Polices the property under control and jurisdiction of The University of Texas System by means of vehicle or on foot.
- Preserves the peace by the use of all lawful means, interceding to prevent or suppress crime when authorized by law; interviews suspects, witnesses, and complainants; collects and processes evidence; writes investigative supplements; compiles, publishes, and maintains crime statistics.
- Provides service, information and directions to students, employees, and visitors; prepares crime analysis reports, and risk assessments; organizes, schedules, and presents crime prevention programs; and analyzes security designs for new construction (security systems).
- Executes all lawful processes; arrest offenders without warrant where authorized by law; investigates criminal offenses to detect and arrest criminals; recover stolen or lost property; attempts to locate missing persons.
- Enforces traffic law by detecting violations, making violator contacts, placing violators in custody or issuing citations or warnings; investigates motor vehicle collisions; enforces Board of Regents' Rules and Regulations; prepares reports on all activities, filing them with the supervising officer.
- Monitors and evaluates staff members.
- Discusses cases with prosecuting attorneys, prepares evidence, and appears as a witness in court.
- Promotes safety and environmental protection by immediately reporting unsafe situations, spills, and accidents; following University safety plans/procedures/protocols; and participating in appropriate safety training.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Additional Duties of Senior Police Officer
- Participates in the training of new officers through a structured Field Training Program and in-service training of all officers on shift; monitor and evaluate staff members.
- Compiles and files cases with the District Attorney's office.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Texas' Driver License.
- High School or GED equivalent.
- This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.
Cadet
- Must reach 21st birthday on or before the date of commissioning.
- Be a citizen of the United States of America.
- Must have never been convicted, pleaded guilty to (nolo contendere), nor have court-ordered community service/probation or deferred adjudication for a Class A misdemeanor or a felony.
- During the last ten (10) years, must not have been convicted, pleaded guilty to (nolo contendere), been on community service/probation or deferred adjudication for a Class B misdemeanor in this state, other states, or while serving in the military.
- If applicable, must have received an honorable discharge from the armed forces of the United States after at least two (2) years of active service.
- Must pass a written entry-level exam.
- Must pass the required physical agility test.
- Must be examined by a licensed physician and a licensed psychiatrist or psychologist.
- Must complete and pass a polygraph examination.
- Must complete all the requirements of a thorough background investigation.
Police Officer & Senior Police Officer
- Successful completion of The University of Texas System Police Academy Basic Peace Officer Course or other equivalent academy.
- Must hold, or be able to obtain upon hire, a Peace Officer Commission from The University of Texas System
- Must meet certain prerequisites established by the Office of the Director of Police, the Board of Regents, and the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education concerning age requirements and physical, mental, and educational standards.
- Must have five (5) years of related work experience as a licensed peace officer to qualify for the Senior Police Officer level.
Preferred Qualifications
Cadet Only
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
- Four (4) years of military active duty with an honorable discharge.
- Six (6) months experience as a Police Guard or Telecommunications Operator or any other position that required the wearing of the approved University of Texas System Police Uniform.

Cadet
- Knowledge and skill in the use of firearms, criminal investigation equipment, photographic equipment, radio equipment, alarm systems, restraining devices, keys and locks, and emergency motor vehicles.

Police Officer & Senior Police Officer
- Must be proficient in the operation and safety procedures of all equipment utilized by the University Police Department necessary to perform assigned tasks.
- Work involves a high degree of hazard normally associated with law enforcement. Exposure to outside weather conditions. May be required to work either day or night on any one of three shifts with varying days off.
Physical Demands
Cadet
- Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, finger, grasp, feel, and/or use repetitive motions.
Police Officer & Senior Police Officer
- Duties involve driving, walking, running, standing, stooping, climbing, crouching, pushing, jumping over, pulling, carrying, reaching above head, lifting, lowering, hand-wrist and elbow motion, grasping, and holding. Good physical condition and vision, ability to hear and speak and full use of arms and legs.
This position will work primarily on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
