Job Summary:

The Study Abroad Advisor and Program Manager support and advises students in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) in pursuit of their study abroad goals while also managing a portfolio of study abroad programs relevant to CALS students. This position supports the full cycle of study abroad including program exploration, pre-departure advising, application processing, support while abroad such as serving in a rotation for the 24/7 emergency phone, and transcript processing. CALS Study Abroad currently administers approximately 30 study abroad programs. Further information about CALS Study Abroad can be found online here.

The individual in this role will be part of the CALS Study Abroad team and will work closely with UW-Madison’s central study abroad office, International Academic Programs (IAP) in the International Division. UW-Madison supports over 3,000 students annually on more than 300 study abroad, international internships, and domestic study away programs.

Work Schedule: Normal hours are 7:45am – 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. Occasional nights and weekends may be required for this position.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Supports students and external partners through international experiences and cultural adjustment following policies, procedures, laws, and health and safety guidelines
  • Works with unit, campus, and external partners on program development and improvement
  • Advises students about international opportunities
  • Support CALS Office of Academic Affairs as well as IAP initiatives and programming
  • May supervise staff
  • Assists in the development and implementation of new international program initiatives
  • Provides guidance and reviews documentation for registration and academic credit transfer requirements according to policies and procedures for international travel and study
  • Identifies, plans, and delivers international education programming

Compensation:

The anticipated salary range for this position is $61,000 - $65,000. However, final salary will depend on experience and qualifications. Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays, and paid time off; competitive insurances and savings accounts; retirement benefits. Required Qualifications:

  • Study abroad or international living experience
  • Minimum three years of administrative experience in an international education or student services office (e.g., academic advising, student affairs, residential life, higher education administration, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with academic programs within the five College of Agricultural and Life Sciences areas of study: health and nutrition; food and agriculture; biological sciences; sustainability, natural resources, and the environment; business, communication, and society
  • Organizational and time-management skills that include problem-solving, multi-tasking, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment with faculty and academic advisors
  • Multicultural awareness and competence; ability to work in a diverse environment serving students, families, and partners from a wide variety of backgrounds
  • Demonstrated strength in verbal and written communication skills to a variety of audiences (e.g., professional emails, presentations, reports to internal and external audiences; responding to inquiries from colleagues or students; adjusting communication style as needed; attention to detail)

Bachelor’s degree required
