Campus Safety Officer Supervisor
Job Description Summary:
The Campus Safety Officer Supervisor is a key leadership position reporting to the Associate Director of Campus Safety Field Operations. They will be responsible for the daily supervision and coordination of campus safety personnel, including officers and dispatchers. This role ensures the safety, security, and wellbeing of the campus community through effective oversight of patrol operations, incident response, emergency preparedness, and staff development. The Supervisor serves as a field operations supervisor, and point of contact for both internal and external partners during assigned shifts.
Minimum Qualifications:
- AA Degree in Administration of Justice/Criminal Justice/Security Administration or a combination of college and experience in a lead or supervisory law enforcement or campus safety security.
- At least three (3) years of relevant security, public safety, or law enforcement experience.
- Two (2) or more years of leadership or supervisory experience.
- Valid CA. driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Ability to pass a background check, including fingerprinting and drug screening.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, early mornings, weekends, and holidays
Preferred Qualifications:
- Completion of POST Advanced certificate or higher certification.
- Experience in higher education, campus safety, or previous law enforcement at Corporal or higher rank.
- Familiarity with Clery Act/Title IX compliance and emergency response protocols.
Specific Duties:
SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES (50%)
- Supervise and support the activities of Campus Safety Officers and Dispatchers during assigned shifts.
- Monitor shift coverage, maintain schedules, and ensure compliance with departmental procedures and university policies.
- Serve as the initial responder and on-scene supervisor for critical incidents, emergencies, safety-related concerns, and special events.
- Conduct routine patrols and inspections to ensure safety standards, proper staffing, and officer accountability.
- Lead pre-shift briefings, share operational updates, and ensure staff are informed of recent activity and policy changes.
- Create and present crime prevention presentations to students, staff and the campus community.
- Assume the position of Incident Commander in critical situation or event, including timely notifications to executive management.
- Support role with emergency management and preparedness with evacuation drills, tabletop exercises, and training.
- Review and approve incident and activity reports; ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely submission.
- Provide ongoing training, coaching, and performance feedback to officers and dispatch personnel.
- Promote and model community-oriented policing emphasizes student engagement, respect, and service.
- Create incident action plans for special events such as athletic events, commencement ceremonies, Gala etc.
- Supervisory oversight at university athletic and special events.
FIELD/ PATROL RESPONSIBILITES (30%)
- Enforce university rules, policies, and applicable local/state laws in a consistent and professional manner.
- Coordinate with external law enforcement, fire, and EMS as needed during incidents or special events.
- Maintain proper use of radio and communication systems in accordance with department protocols.
- Assist with administrative duties including inventory, uniforms, and equipment tracking.
- Coordinate contract security requests for special events and pre-planned shift vacancies.
- Collaborate with Lead Officers and ensure daily pass-downs and leadership directives are communicated and executed.
- Report operational concerns, personnel issues, and training needs to department leadership.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook); able to learn University systems such as iParq, ParkMobile, Omnilert, Omnigo, USA Alarms, Digital Symmetry, Hexagon and fire alarm panels and systems.
- Enforce university regulations, including Parking Regulations, the Student Conduct Code, the California Penal Code, and other applicable policies.
- Respond to calls for service
- Patrol university buildings, grounds, and property to maintain a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
TRAINING and EVALUATION (15%)
- Oversee the training of new officers
- Review the weekly evaluations when the training offers submit the evaluations for review.
- Coach and mentor officers
- Prepare and complete the 30-, 90-, and 180-day evaluations for probationary officers during their introductory period.
- Maintain professional development by attending required training courses and conferences.
Supervisor will perform other duties as assigned by Management (5%)
Salary Range
Maximum: $70,304
Minimum: $70,304
