We are seeking a proactive Capacity Building Research Associate to join the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration for Yorkshire and Humber (YHARC). This important role supports the delivery of the YHARC Research Capacity Development strategy. You will coordinate communities of practice, activities and events that build research knowledge and skills among health and care professionals as well as academics working in universities across the region. You will work closely with the YHARC core operational group (which includes colleagues with expertise in knowledge mobilisation, communications and research inclusion) as well as our partner NHS Trusts, Local Authorities, Higher Education Institutions and NIHR networks across the region.

This role will be supervised by Dr Sarah Blower (Associate Professor of Child Development and Family Wellbeing and Co-Lead of Capacity Building for the YHARC), working closely with Professor Sam Debbage (Director of Education and Research, Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust). You will join the Family Wellbeing Team within the Public Health and Society research group in the Department. The post is based at University of York, with regular travel required to Bradford, and other areas in the region. It is expected that the post holder will work on campus in York at least 1 day a week (usually a Monday). As such this post is not suitable for remote working outside of a commutable distance of Yorkshire and Humber.

The successful applicant will be given opportunities, structured support, encouragement and time to engage in a minimum of 10 days professional development pro rata per year, in line with ‘The Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers’.

This post is available for up to 30 months, with the possibility of extension, starting as soon as possible.

The post involves providing operational support to, and coordination of, research capacity building activities within the YHARC and requires strong skills and experience in health research and working collaboratively with others, as well as knowledge of UK health and care service systems.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications Needed

  • Experience of successfully interacting with a broad range of stakeholders within academia and health and social care organisations.
  • Willingness to travel as required for meetings and to work 1 day a week (usually Monday) on campus.
  • Commitment and enthusiasm for developing research capabilities and opportunities for health and care professionals as well as academic researchers working in the YHARC.

Interview date: To be confirmed.
