Cardiopulmonary/Pulmonary Function Technician - Pediatrics Allergy & Pulmonary Medicine

This group consists of 20 attending physicians, 9 fellow physicians, and 6 nurse practitioners. This position is in a pediatric outpatient setting and is full time patient facing.
The position performs pulmonary function testing on pediatric patients in the ambulatory clinical setting in accordance with ATS technical standards and guidelines. Testing primarily consists of outpatient pulmonary function testing and occasional inpatient testing. Pulmonary function test results are discussed with medical provider and are monitored by the supervisor and medical director of the pulmonary function lab. Additional responsibilities extend to patient scheduling, billing, annual fit testing, and cleaning, calibration, and quality control of all equipment.
This is a weekday, daytime position. No weekends and 10 University holidays!
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Always maintain patient privacy.
- Provide patients with clear and accurate information.
- Interacts with patients, staff, and physicians to ensure appropriate patient care and effective teamwork.
- Prepares, maintains, and calibrates PFT and lab equipment.
- Collects test samples, performs initial test analysis and advises staff on findings.
- Performs test such as spirometry, lung volumes, diffusion capacity, methacholine challenge, exercise challenge from bronchospasm, cardiopulmonary stress test, and other diagnostic test according to the American Thoracic Society (ATS) guidelines.
- Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
- Assists in billing processes and data entry.
- Schedules patients for PFT appointments.
- Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Education: Associate degree

Basic Life Support - American Heart Association, Basic Life Support - American Red Cross, Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC), Respiratory Care Practitioner - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Respiratory Care Practitioner - Missouri Division of Professional Registration

More About This Job
Required Qualifications:
- Basic Life Support certification must be obtained within one month of hire date.
- Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in Pediatric PFT lab.
- Prior experience MGC Diagnostic Software- Breeze Suite.
- Prior Experience with Epic.
- Demonstrated effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Works well as part of a team.
- CPFT or RPFT credentials.

Salary Range
$29.80 - $46.19 / Hourly The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
