General Summary

The Career and Employment Services Specialist supports student success through a comprehensive career services program encompassing the following areas: employer and student relationship development, career advising/coaching, job search assistance, Cooperative Education facilitation, program planning and academic advising for students. These services are provided to current, prospective, and alumni students. The Specialist works collaboratively with faculty, staff, alumni, potential students, business and industry, schools and community organizations to expand possibilities for student learning, and career development.

Essential Functions

Oversees the Career and Employment Services Office operations to include: career assessment administration, advising of deciding majors, employer relations, Cooperative Education, and career readiness services for students, prospective students, and alumni. Provides support for new initiatives, grants, scholarships and programs that have career and employment focus.

Provides advising, educational guidance, and assistance to students by planning programs of study and schedules. Recommends courses and determines appropriate educational solutions for undecided, transfer, and AAS students. Meets with continuing students to review/revise long-range academic program goals in Academic Planner. Follows up with advisees on Early Alert reports.

Provides individual and/or group sessions for students, prospective students, and alumni about job readiness and career exploration services, including self/career assessment, mock/panel interviews, resume development, job shadowing, social media etiquette and job searches. Assists students in exploring a range of career and work possibilities that match their career goals and workplace fit.

Coordinates, directs and manages various on and off-campus program/job fairs, events, interview days and career/college readiness programs designed to serve employer and student needs and to increase visibility of CCC as the "college of choice".

Monitors and promotes employment opportunities for students and alumni. Processes and approves employment postings and provides information about job opportunities to the campus. Manages the on-line job postings and resources site, including maintaining relationships with the host company, keeping records on the contract, staying current on site company updates and updating events and other information. Researches and approves employer memberships and approve all job postings from employers.

Essential Functions

Works in conjunction with employers to promote and facilitate job postings and cooperative education opportunities. Consults with employers to promote the hiring of CCC students and alumni. Establishes and maintains relationships with hiring managers through community meetings, networking, phone, Webex and site visits to stay abreast of current and future needs for employees.

Works collaboratively with campus faculty in the implementation of the Cooperative Education program. Oversees paperwork and files for each student, maintains contacts with the students, sets up and maintains the learning management system course for each Cooperative Education program area, conducting site visits, consulting with faculty and submits final grades

Cultivates and maintains strong relations and contact with faculty in each program area. Plans and presents topics in classrooms such as career exploration/planning, interview techniques, resume preparation and other topics.

Assists with key student services/institutional activities such as special admissions/recruitment days and other student services events. Serves on various committees such as New Student Orientation, Early Alert Call Team, Graduation, and advises Student Clubs and Organizations as needed.
