Case Writer (Case Centre on Public Leadership)

About the Blavatnik School of Government

Our vision is of a world better led, a world better served and a world better governed. We are a global school committed to improving the quality of government and public policymaking worldwide, through three routes: teaching current and future leaders; generating research with impact; and engaging with governments and practitioners.

What we offer

The School is a collaborative, friendly, and dynamic department based in an award-winning building in Oxford. We host regular events and talks with well-known guest speakers – all of which are open to staff. On the social side, we have regular coffee/cake mornings for staff, a family-friendly Halloween event, and Christmas and summer parties. As an employer, we genuinely care about our employees’ wellbeing, and this is reflected in the range of benefits that we offer including:

  • An excellent contributory pension scheme
  • 38 days’ annual leave
  • Family leave schemes and a comprehensive range of childcare services
  • Cycle loan scheme and discounted bus travel and Season Ticket travel loans
  • Membership to a variety of social and sports clubs
  • Opportunities for hybrid working (typically 60% of working hours on-site and 40% remotely)

More information about working at the School can be found on our jobs page.

About the role

The Blavatnik School of Government is seeking an exceptional writer and researcher to join the award-winning Case Centre on Public Leadership to support the development of interactive and immersive teaching materials based on real-world public-policy challenges.

The Case Writer role is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the School’s teaching by developing materials based on pressing public-policy issues that are used to teach academic theories and leadership skills. You will work closely with the Case Centre team, faculty, and practitioners to develop case studies and other teaching materials on topics from around the world. For instance, recent projects include a simulation about health care in Brazil and a case on party politics in Sri Lanka. The work entails project management, document research, interviewing, writing compelling narratives, and constructing exhibits.

You will have a varied workload, balancing months-long projects with other short-term activities. You will also contribute to the administrative and organisational duties of the small team, such as preparing material for dissemination, supporting training workshops, and developing external communications.

This is a three-year post, with extension possible subject to funding.

About you

You will have excellent writing skills, with the ability to write clearly about complex topics for a generalist audience. You should have experience with managing an in-depth writing project from conception to dissemination, such as a case or a research report. While case-writing experience is an advantage, it is not necessary; the right candidate will be trained on the job. Additionally, you will have strong organisational and interpersonal skills, experience conducting in-depth research, and the ability to deliver high-quality products and to meet deadlines. You will also be able to work with the School’s faculty on a range of topics.
