The Faculty of Law and Newnham College at the University of Cambridge are seeking to appoint an appropriately qualified individual to a one-year Assistant Professorship in Equity and Trusts from 1 October 2026, in conjunction with Newnham College. The person appointed, whether male or female, will be a Special Supervisor at Newnham College.
The Faculty is one of the world's leading law schools. It is consistently ranked highly in the United Kingdom, in national league tables, and in the QS World University Rankings. The Faculty of Law currently has over 100 University, Faculty and College teaching officers. Almost every area of legal interest is represented.
The Faculty of Law successfully renewed its Athena Swan Bronze Award in January 2026. This recognition highlights our ongoing efforts to advance gender equality and build an inclusive culture across the institution.
Newnham College is a leading centre for women's education since 1871, with a strong Law presence. The College has around 400 undergraduates, 300 postgraduates and 70 fellows. It is set on an 18-acre site opposite the Sidgwick Site with historic and modern buildings surrounding the college's renowned gardens.
The appointee will:
- Be an outstanding scholar and teacher in the fields of Equity and Trusts;
- Normally hold a PhD or equivalent qualification;
- Demonstrate potential to lecture effectively and to carry out and publish research of the highest calibre;
- Be expected to teach on the undergraduate paper in Equity, and other undergraduate and LLM Private Law papers, as required;
- Conduct research and participate in the general work of the Faculty;
- Undertake College duties;
- Be appointed a Special Supervisor in Law at Newnham.
