Central Sterile Technician II
Position Summary:
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Central Sterile Technician II within the Office for Clinical Affairs at the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine (RSDM).
Under supervision the Central Sterile Technician II performs work related to the care, sterilization, packing, and disbursement of equipment and supplies. Additionally, the Central Sterile Technician II maintains all aspects of sterilization procedures related to dental instruments and supplies associated with patient care within the various clinical operators.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Operates and monitors steam autoclaves, sonic washers and other sterilizing equipment. Keeps records of loads completed, items in loads, and maintenance procedures performed.
- Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments, equipment, and assembles wraps and sterilizers cassettes, trays and instruments. Follows proper Standard Precautions while in decontamination and sterilization areas.
- Monitors biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and equipment.
- Maintains necessary supply levels in sterile storage areas.
- Verifies that equipment functions properly, requisitions for equipment maintenance repair or replacement and removes defective equipment.
- Assists with maintaining established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality improvement, safety and environmental and infection control standards.
- Examines equipment to detect leak, worn or loose parts, or other indications of disrepair.
- Maintains storage rooms in a neat and orderly manner in keeping with the highest standards of sanitation.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- One (1) year of experience in a health care, medical or dental setting or a closely related setting using sterile procedures.
- New Jersey Central Service Certification (HSPA or CBSPD) is required.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Sitting/standing for prolonged periods, frequently walking and reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive).
- Must have the ability to lift/push/pull greater than 50 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Noise, busy area, hot and cold.
