Ceramics Area Lecturer

The UCLA Department of Art empowers students to reshape their worlds through critical inquiry and transformative creativity. We are creating a pool of candidates to teach courses in the Ceramics Area of the department for the 2026-27 academic year. Members of the pool would be called upon to teach lower division, upper division or graduate students as needed and dependent upon funding. Applicants must be able to teach in form construction (hand-building and wheel-throwing) and surface design (glazing and other techniques) and be skilled in the use of throwing wheels, slab rollers, gas and electric kilns, and glazes and raw materials.

In the Ceramics Area students are encouraged to explore myriad ways of working with the medium of clay, engaging with art historical and contemporary critical issues. Classes provide instruction in form construction (hand-building and wheel-throwing) and surface design (glazing and other techniques), so that students become competent in the use of ceramic materials. The ceramic studio is equipped with throwing wheels, slab rollers, gas and electric kilns, glazes and raw materials, a walk-in spray booth, and ample work room.

Annual Salary Range $70,977-$199,722. Rank and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. See table #15.

This position is represented by the University Council - American Federation of Teachers.

Internal applicants will be considered for reappointment prior to the consideration of external applicants.
