The Department of Social and Behavioural Sciences at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) is seeking applications from outstanding scholars in the discipline of Criminology and Crime Science to contribute to its research and teaching profile, and world-class reputation. The successful applicant will have an outstanding record of excellence in research and publication in related fields, in securing external funding and in delivering innovative and high-quality education.

The discipline of Criminology and Crime Science is situated within the prestigious Department of Social and Behavioural Sciences (SS) in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS). The social sciences examine human-values and form an essential aspect of education and research that solves the challenges facing the global community. Delivering research-led learning, practical knowledge, multicultural competence, and global awareness is the hallmark of the SS and CLASS's education programmes. Our academic programmes provide students opportunities to develop cultural, social and political understanding, creativity, and critical thinking encompasses a diversity of academic fields. We have a high interdisciplinary focus, and a thriving and supportive intellectual environment.

Duties

Successful candidates will be expected to carry out undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, develop relevant curriculum, supervise students on research projects and under practicum/internship, and manage student activities and academic programmes. They will also be expected to undertake research relevant to their field of expertise and promote/participate in cross/interdisciplinary projects; contribute to departmental administration and knowledge transfer; work collegially with members of the CityU community; and represent the discipline of Criminology and Crime Science in the public sphere.

Requirements

A PhD in Criminology/Crime Science or related disciplines. Candidates are expected to have strong competency in integrating knowledge and scientific methods from many disciplines to the development of practical and ethical ways to reduce crime and increase security. They should have a strong track record in research, publications and grant acquisitions in their specialised fields. Preference will be given to those who are able to teach multi-disciplines.

Candidates for Assistant Professor should have demonstrated potential for high-impact publication and grant capture. Candidates for Associate Professor should have a strong record of original intellectual achievements, as evidenced by research or publications and grant capture as well as a strong teaching record and contributions to instructional development. Candidates for Chair Professor and Professor should have a portfolio of significant contributions to their field of scholarship (including publications and the receipt of research grants or funds), and a strong record of providing leadership in teaching and educational activities (including supervision of graduate students) and professional experience.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be driven by market competitiveness and individual performance. Excellent fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes, and relocation assistance (where applicable). Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract.
