Position Summary
Chairperson
Associate Professor or Professor - Tenured
Department of History and Anthropology
College of Humanities and Social Sciences
Primary Responsibilities:
- Fulfill department administrative duties on a 12-month contract, 6-credit hours of instruction per semester; or equivalent reassigned time as appropriate to be approved by the Dean and Provost
- Provide dynamic collegial leadership for faculty on the main campus, regional sites, and in online programs
- Provide assistance with accreditation requirements, data collection, policies and procedures
- Support academic planning of the department for academic programs
- Execute budget planning and oversight for the department
- Coordinate curriculum planning, development, practices and procedures
- Provide supervision and/or evaluation practices commensurate with common collegial practices
- Support student recruitment and retention initiatives
- Support the facilitation of faculty research productivity
- Coordinate efforts to engage university and community stakeholders
- Provide leadership for addressing faculty-student conflicts
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in History or related field (degree must be from a regionally accredited or internationally accredited/government certified university); academic credentials need to complement instructional staff in History or Historic Preservation
- Demonstrated record of leadership experience in an academic setting, such as chairing a department/program (full-time, part-time, or interim), chairing college or university level committees, serving as an officer of a professional society, etc.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching, research, and service sufficient to merit rank of Associate Professor or Professor with tenure
- Demonstrated achievement in student recruitment and retention
- Demonstrated experience or knowledge of distance learning modalities
- Demonstrated strong written, oral communication, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of faculty morale and enthusiasm
- Demonstrated commitment to collaboration, partnerships, and collegiality with a variety of stakeholders including the internal university community
- Demonstrated ability to champion the wide range of programs within the department, including History, Historic Preservation, Anthropology, Social Studies Education, and Social Sciences
- Evidence of familiarity with accreditation processes
- Evidence of familiarity with budget/asset allocation in a leadership/director role

Department Information:
The Department of History and Anthropology has 17 full-time faculty lines and approximately 200 undergraduate majors in five different programs and generally 10 graduate students in the Public History program. The department is pleased to serve first-generation and diverse students from urban and rural locations. Course modalities range from traditional face-to-face classes to online and Zoom-based courses at our regional campuses.
