Maximum Hiring Annual Salary: $82,712.00
To attain the maximum annual salary, employee must meet all minimum qualifications plus:
- 5 (five) years of additional applicable work experience and/or degrees higher than minimum qualification degree. Degrees higher than the minimum qualification degree can be used in combination with additional work experience.
- A combination of related education, on-the-job work experience, certifications and/or licenses that results in a candidate successfully meeting the minimum qualifications of the position, may be considered.

Job Description:

The FAA-approved Check Instructor position ensures the viability of flight training by providing the required qualifications to teach primary and advanced aviation students per the Aims FAR 14 CFR Part 141 certificate and conduct FAA required stage checks to test student progress. This position provides the stability and expertise necessary for consistent, high-quality, and safe flight instruction in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulations, as well as performing other job duties essential to maintaining the program and its 14 CFR 141 operation; this includes but is not limited to auditing student flight training records to verify Federal Aviation Regulation compliance. This person will also be required to drive a company vehicle to tow airplanes.
FAA Compliance Duties:
- Work directly with and assist the Assistant and Chief Flight Instructors
- Audit student records to ensure that all minimum flight times have been met, including all total time, solo time, cross-country, and night flight time
- Conduct 12-month recurrent proficiency checks as required by the FAA
- Ensure compliance with all required records
Certified Flight Instructor Duties:
- Perform Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) responsibilities and duties on an as needed basis including one-on-one flight instruction to students in aircraft; preflight briefings and post-flight debriefings
- Determine when students are ready for testing, then authorize and supervise first solo flight; supervising all levels of training
- Ensure that all training and flight activities are performed in a safe and secure manner per Federal Aviation Regulations
Check Instructor Duties:
- Examine students through oral and flight testing to determine if they meet the standards set forth by the FAA
- Working weekends as needed to provide full AFTC functions
- Tow airplanes using a company vehicle, perform classroom instruction as assigned, and Check Instructor duties as assigned
- Participate in company related manual, curriculum, and training material creation and revision using typical office computer software and flight management software
Other Duties as Assigned:
- Serve as a mentor to students and new instructors.
- Assist with instructor interviews, training, quality, and general oversight;
- Participate in special event days;
- Attend departmental meetings, FAA inspections, FSDO meetings, and FAA Safety Team meetings
Minimum Qualifications:
- One (1) year as a flight instructor.
- Current FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate Airplane Single-Engine Land.
- 300 hours as a flight instructor.
- Meet recent pilot-in-command flight experience as per 14 CFR 61.56 (c) and 14 CFR 61.57 (a) and (c).
- Certified Flight Instructor -Airplane Single-Engine Land.
- Certified Flight Instructor - Instrument Airplane.
- Six (6) months as a flight instructor of a 141 flight school or equivalent.
- Hold a current FAA First, Second, Third class Medical, and/or hold a current FAA BasicMed Certificate.
- This position requires the use of a company vehicle for business travel. The selected candidate must successfully pass an MVR and be insurable under Aims insurance.
