Chem/Bio Equipment Technician

Summary of Position

The Science Technology Technician provides equipment and instrument support for the research and teaching needs in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry and Neuroscience.

As the Chem/Bio Equipment Technician, you will:

  • Conduct routine maintenance & repair of scientific instruments and equipment, including cryogen fills and scientific gas supplies.
  • Conduct instrument training for faculty and students to support teaching and research.
  • Serve as a contact point for vendors and service personnel to coordinate purchase, installation, repair and replacement of scientific instruments and equipment. Coordinate delivery and disposition of scientific gases.
  • Provide rapid response to lab-related technology problems for scientific instruments and equipment.
  • Maintain an inventory of scientific equipment. Develop efficient systems for preventative maintenance and document instrument repairs and upgrades, as appropriate.
  • Hire and supervise student employees as necessary.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM required, Master’s Degree in STEM preferred
  • 1-3 years of related experience required, 4-7 years experience preferred
  • Technical knowledge of scientific equipment (mechanical, electrical) and basic computing/software; basic knowledge of undergraduate lab procedures in biology, chemistry, and related fields.
  • Mechanical, electrical, and computing skills for maintaining and repairing scientific equipment and connected computers.
  • Documented ability to learn new technology, problem-solve, self-direct, and work independently as an efficient team member.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, knowledge of Google Suite of Products preferred

YOUR COMPENSATION

New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role. The starting hourly rate for this position is $26.00. This position is full time, non-exempt.
