Mission or Goal of Unit: Pursue the Research, Clinical, and Education Missions of the academic medical center in the areas of Hematology, Oncology, and Palliative Care. Through bench research, clinical trials and the rigorous study of prevention and control, our scientists pursue the many roles of medicine in treating, preventing and controlling the adverse effects of cancer. Our hallmark activity is translational research, where our physicians and scientists work to bring laboratory discoveries to the patient bedside as quickly and safely as possible. Through our training programs, our faculty train the next generation of scientists and physicians to further advance science and practice.
Chief Purpose of this position: This position will have a role expanding patient access to cutting-edge treatments including clinical trials in VCU Health’s Cellular Immunotherapies and Transplant Program.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Teaching | Trains medical students, residents and fellows while in the clinic. Expected to actively participate in providing research opportunities to fellows. Mentors junior faculty.
Research | Participates and engages other members of the Massey Cancer Center and the Department of Internal Medicine in collaborative research projects. Stays up to date on the clinical trial menu offered through the Massey Cancer Center and educates patients on their options for treatment on clinical trials.
Service | Participate in program tumor boards, Quality Assurance and Improvement activities and meetings, and in ad hoc program project endeavors as directed by the Medical Director. Help to give relevant teaching sessions to the APP in the CIT program.
Clinical | Attends on the inpatient Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, and sees patients in the outpatient clinic for consults, post-transplant care and in long term survivorship.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Board certified or eligible in Medical Oncology or Hematology
- Eligible for Virginia licensure
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the practical and active care and support of patients undergoing autologous, allogeneic, haplotype and cord blood transplants
- Experience in the practical and active care of patients undergoing CARt and cellular therapy
Salary Range: Commensurate
