Duties & Responsibilities: The Clerkship Coordinator manages the administrative operations of the Emergency Medicine Clerkship. This position works in close collaboration with the Clerkship Director(s), Department Chair, Vice Chair for Education, Clinical Curriculum Manager, and School of Medicine leadership to ensure a high-quality learning experience for all medical students.

The Coordinator serves as the primary liaison between students, faculty, residents, departmental administration, and clinical sites, ensuring effective communication, seamless program operations, and compliance with institutional policies and LCME accreditation standards. The role requires exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to anticipate and solve problems in a fast-paced academic medical environment.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related work experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize web-based software including learning management systems, Google documents, Adobe Acrobat and other web-based data collection tools. Proficiency with all Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to engage effectively with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work both collaboratively with the department and OME team and independently with faculty and students.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in an academic setting, preferably with student affairs, medical education, or academic program coordination
  • Familiarity with medical education processes and clinical environments
  • Familiarity with LCME accreditation standards and undergraduate medical education structures
  • Experience using electronic learning or evaluation systems (LEO, MedHub, or similar)
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, clinical workflows, and hospital systems (e.g., EPIC)
  • Experience coordinating simulation or procedural training sessions

Salary Range: Commensurate with experience
