Interested in Sustainability? Interested in keeping the Nation healthy? Do you have the organisational and administrative skills to support meaningful work in Climate, Health and Sustainability (CHS) ? Then we want to hear from you!

Join us at the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) and help support our CHS programme. We are looking for a proactive and organised individual to provide comprehensive, effective and efficient administrative support to the NIHR Sustainability team and its external partners.

Who are we?

The NIHR funds, enables and delivers world-leading health and social care research that improves people's health and wellbeing and promotes economic growth. We are also a major funder of applied health research in low and middle-income countries.

What will you be doing?

You will help support the delivery of the Climate, Health and Sustainability (CHS) programme and the wider team, contributing to day‑to‑day activities that help the programme run smoothly. The role will involve supporting ongoing work, helping to improve ways of working, and providing practical assistance across a range of tasks. You will build your knowledge of the CHS programme over time and use this to support colleagues and respond to queries.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as the main point of contact for CHS team’s shared mailbox and internal engagement platform, monitoring activity to ensure effective communication and collaboration
  • Managing the diaries of senior colleagues and coordinating a range of internal and external meetings, activities and events. Including booking venues and speakers.
  • Analysing and evaluating specialised information and data, identifying areas for further investigation
  • Contributing insight to the development of new or revised policies and systems.

Who are we looking for?

You will be an experienced Sustainability professional with a strong understanding of the links between Climate, Health and Sustainability. You’ll be confident applying this knowledge to business priorities and capable of interpreting complex data clearly and concisely. You’ll be someone who thrives in a collaborative environment and is comfortable working with a wide range of stakeholders, both internal and external. A genuine interest in sustainability will be key to your success in this role.

Other skills to be successful in this role are:

  • Excellent planning and prioritisation skills.
  • Strong communication and influencing abilities.
  • A proactive, problem-solving mindset.
  • The ability to evaluate and improve systems and processes.

Why join us?

We recognise that our people are our greatest asset, to look after them we offer:

  • A generous benefits package (see full details here)
  • Hybrid working (typically 20% office-based)
  • A culture of wellbeing and support- we’ve proudly been signatories of, and working, to the 6 standards of Mental Health at work commitment since 2019.
  • A commitment to personal development, with opportunities for growth.

The role is offered at 36 hours per week, but we will consider part time (minimum of 28 hours). Please indicate any preference on your application.
