University Partnership Lead (0.4 FTE)

About us

Founded in 1902, UCL Institute of Education has been shaping policy and helping government, organisations and individuals navigate a changing society for the last 120 years. We embrace collaboration and excellence to create a future that is inclusive and just and have been ranked number one for education every year since 2014 in the QS World University Rankings by Subject.

The department of Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment is a world-leading centre for business, citizenship, computing, economics, geography, history, mathematics, religious education, science and social sciences education. A core strength of the Department is in the study, support and improvement of pedagogy, curriculum and assessment through multidisciplinary programmes.

The Department hosts top-rated initial teacher education programmes, including Secondary PGCE, innovative Masters programmes and a wide range of continuing professional development courses. The department is also home to four research centres: Centre for Climate Change and Sustainability Education, Centre for Holocaust Education, Centre for Teachers and Teaching Research and the Development Education Research Centre

About the role

The IOE offers an exceptional range of high quality teacher training and teacher education programs, working in partnership with some of the most vibrant and innovative schools in the Greater London region. Our provision includes highly rated Primary and Secondary PGCE programs and, for experienced teachers, the Assessment Only route. The Secondary PGCE (including School Direct) is offered in 17 subject lines and will train over 600 Student Teachers in 2025-26. School partnerships are an important aspect of our provision, and we work with around 250 schools and colleges across Greater London.

We are looking to appoint a University Partnership Lead (UPL) who will be a member of the Department of Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment. You will be visiting schools and engage with Lead Placement Mentors in those schools (LPMs), with on-line meetings, email and telephone calls used to provide follow up and additional support for schools. The UPL post is key to maintaining and strengthening the IOE’s partnerships with secondary schools and ensuring quality assurance. These partnerships operate within the DfE’s Initial Teacher Training (ITT) criteria and the Initial Teacher Training and Early Career Framework (ITTECF).

This post is on a part-time basis (.40 FTE/ 14.60 hours per week).

Due to the nature of the duties, a DBS check will be required.

About you

You will have a first degree, a (PGCE and QTS or substantial teaching experience equivalent to these qualifications) and evidence of successful teaching experience at secondary level. You will have knowledge of the requirements of initial teacher education and the IOE’s Secondary PGCE course and ability to work collaboratively with staff at the IOE as well as with school and college-based staff.

In addition, you will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills (both verbal and written), including the ability to relate successfully to a wide range of people in schools and within the IOE and ability to work flexibly as a member of a team.
