The Professional Counseling Program’s School-Based Mental Health Training Institute (SBMHTI) promotes mental health prevention and intervention, including advocating for underserved populations, providing mental health services in school districts, and training school personnel and community members. SBMHTI’s key initiative is the implementation of the Carlow Counseling Clinic. The Carlow Counseling Clinic embeds free, responsive mental health services into high-need school districts and educates behavioral health professionals.

The Clinical Director of the Carlow Counseling Clinic at Woodland Hills School District is responsible for leadership in the administration, planning, implementation, and evaluation of school-based mental health counseling services. These services are provided to promote students' personal development and psychological well-being and include individual and group counseling, outreach programming, training, consultation, crisis intervention and assessment. This position involves the training and supervision of students and support staff, budget administration, and formulation of clinic policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides interaction and communication with Woodland Hills school personnel, families, students, and counselor trainees by coordinating the services of the Counseling Center.
  • Ensures financial responsibility of the Clinic by managing the budget and supervising all expenditures.
  • Promotes the personal and professional development of counselors-in-training by providing weekly individual, group, and live supervision of counseling services with individuals, groups and/or families.
  • Provides effective and appropriate school-based mental health services by planning, organizing, and implementing new counseling, training, and educational outreach interventions as needed for Woodland Hills staff and counseling trainees.
  • Ensures that the needs of Woodland Hills students are addressed in emergency situations by coordinating and/or providing crisis intervention services during office hours and after hours as needed.
  • Promotes communication within the Clinic by conducting regular group supervision meetings.
  • Provides monitoring of clinical records to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements for clinical records.
  • Communicates the function and mission of the Carlow Counseling Clinic by meeting with students, school personnel, and families.
  • Provides for continuity of care by training and supervising Clinic counselors-in-training.
  • Provides clinical supervision for students operating under the supervisor’s license.
  • Actively participates in and contributes to staff planning, and evaluation of services and student performance.
  • Compiles data for annual reports and other reporting requirements.
  • Facilitates a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
  • Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development seminars, and attending training and/or courses as required by the University and obtaining Continuing Education Units (CEUs) as required by state licensing and regulatory boards.
  • Supervises clinic staff and graduate assistants.
  • Contributes to the overall success of the Carlow Counseling Clinic by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Grant Primary Investigator/Director of the School-Based Mental Health Training Institute.

MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL REQUIRED

A master’s degree in counseling from a CACREP-accredited program.

MINIMUM RELATED EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Minimum of 5 years of Post-Masters clinical mental health counseling experience. Minimum of 2 years’ experience providing clinical supervision. Documented graduate credits and/or continuing education in clinical supervision training including clinical supervision models, ethics and legal issues in supervision, and gatekeeping and remediation strategies. Documented graduate credits and/or continuing education in child and adolescent mental health counseling and/or interventions, parent consultation, and family counseling. Documented graduate credits and/or continuing education in trauma-informed interventions and practices. Preferred Experience: Experience with management and administrative responsibilities of a non-profit/ mental health program or clinic. Experience engaging in networking, marketing, and referral processes associated with managing a mental health program or clinic.

MINIMUM LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Licensed in PA as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) (required). Supervisor credential - Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) (preferred). Registered Play Therapist (RPT) or Registered Play Therapist Supervisor (RPT-S) (preferred).
