The University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences invite applications for three (3) full-time, 12-month, clinical track veterinarians to join the Farm Animal Field Services (FAFS) Team to support the teaching, clinical service, and outreach missions of the College. Applicants must have a DVM degree from an accredited veterinary school and at least one year of relevant experience with farm animal species (cattle, small ruminants, camelids, and swine). Strong interpersonal skills, excellent work ethic, and a committed desire to clinical teaching of veterinary students and field based primary care of livestock.

We are seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our team supporting the teaching, clinical service, and outreach missions of the College. The successful candidate(s) will share service and teaching responsibilities with faculty members in FAFS. Clinical duties include ambulatory field service and shared after-hours emergency coverage. After-hours emergency coverage is shared among the faculty members and a designated emergency clinician. This position is critical to meet the growing needs of the expanding veterinary student class, to ensure high-quality clinical experiences for students interested in large animal practice, and to provide service to the regional agricultural rural communities. The primary responsibilities include providing clinical services to farm animal patients and teaching and mentoring veterinary students. The farm animal caseload consists of approximately 60% beef cattle, 20% dairy cattle, 25% small ruminant/camelid and 5% swine.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Clinical Service: Provide veterinary care to farm animal patients through on-farm visits, herd health management, and emergency care.
  2. Teaching and Mentoring: Instruct and supervise veterinary students during clinical rotations, ensuring the delivery of high-quality educational experiences. Mentor students interested in large animal practice and provide guidance on career development.
  3. Community Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with agricultural stakeholders, including farmers, producers, and industry partners, to enhance service delivery and promote the College of Veterinary Medicine.
  4. Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other faculty members within FAFS and across sections/departments to achieve departmental and institutional goals.

Qualifications:

  • DVM degree from an accredited veterinary school.
  • Minimum of one year clinical experience in providing veterinary care to farm animals, including cattle, sheep, goats, camelids, and swine.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and mentor veterinary students.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment and engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Priority will be given to candidates with excellent clinical experience in primary food animal care and a strong desire to communicate those lessons to veterinary students within the context of clinical teaching.
