Non Tenure-Track Clinical Instructor Position in Shelter Medicine & Surgery

The successful candidate will have experience in population health management for companion animals, high-quality/high-volume spay/neuter, and clinical practice in a shelter setting. Primary responsibilities will include providing clinical service through teaching to include clinical instruction of interns and veterinary students, didactic teaching in rounds and classes, and clinical outreach through a shelter medicine rotation to animal shelters. The Clinical Instructor will oversee students and interns providing medical care to shelter animals, including in-shelter animals, foster animals, and urgent care patients presenting for surrender to the SPCA. Additional services may be provided to low-income owners through collaboration and grant programs. The Clinical Instructor will perform, instruct, and oversee shelter medicine and common surgical procedures, including high-quality, high volume spay neuter procedures, dentistry, enucleations, amputations, and other procedures. The Clinical Instructor may oversee students providing medical care and performing surgery on the Primary Care Surgery (PCS) service at Cornell's Small Animal Community Practice.
Candidates must have a DVM or equivalent degree with at least 2 years of clinical experience. Experience in a shelter environment is required. Completion of a Shelter Medicine Internship or Residency is preferred.
The MSMP is comprised of 5 full-time, and one part-time, faculty veterinarians, and the program is supported by three experienced, licensed veterinary technicians (LVT), a program coordinator, and two interns. For clinical work, we partner with a local shelter full-time and provide regional clinical support. Additionally, our consultation service engages regionally and nationally, through both remote and onsite collaborations.
The salary range for this position is $80,000-120,000 and will be commensurate with academic credentials and experience.
