Position Overview
The Department of Veterinary Preventive Medicine at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a Lecturer in Veterinary Preventive Medicine. The successful candidate will contribute to instruction and curriculum development within the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program, primarily within years 1-3 of the professional DVM curriculum. Potential topics will be tailored to the strengths of the candidate, but may include Animal Welfare, Disease Prevention and Control, Biosecurity, Infection Control, and Food Protection.
This position is ideal for an individual with a strong foundation in preventive medicine, animal health, and/or public health, who is passionate about teaching, mentorship, and student success. The individual will have strong communication skills and mastery of the English language. The instructor will collaborate with departmental colleagues to design, deliver, and assess educational content that supports the College's mission to advance animal, human, and ecosystem health through excellence in teaching, research, and outreach.
Performance Objectives
- Develop and deliver engaging, evidence-based instructional content centered on Veterinary Preventive Medicine (lectures, case studies, assessments, hands-on learning, and digital resources).
- Mentor and support veterinary students' professional growth and development.
- Coordinate and collect assessment data to support student learning and guide continuous improvement of pre-clinical courses.
- Collaborate with VPM faculty and other contributors across the DVM curriculum.
Education and Experience Requirements
Required:
- DVM or advanced degree (e.g., MPH, MS, PhD) in a related preventive medicine discipline.
- Demonstrated strong interest and professional experience in Veterinary Preventive Medicine, including private or public practice.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and collaborative skills.
Desired:
- Prior teaching experience within DVM curricula.
- Diplomate status in the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine.
- Experience with online learning platforms and educational technology.
- Experience with student assessment.

Department Information
The Department of Veterinary Preventive Medicine provides the major preventive medicine and public health focus for the OSU College of Veterinary Medicine. There are approximately 30 faculty members in the department located at the College of Veterinary Medicine in Columbus and The Ohio State Large Animal Services at Marysville. The department has world-class facilities and strong collaborative programs that focus on a wide variety of animal populations. This infrastructure provides extensive teaching resources and considerable opportunity for collaborative research. The application of innovative approaches to problem solving and collaborative efforts have enabled faculty in the department to be competitive in obtaining external funding and be successful in training high-quality graduate and veterinary students.
