Clinical Research Assistant- Adolescent Substance Use and Pain

Position Summary/ Department Summary:

Boston Children's Hospital is seeking a highly motivated Clinical Research Assistant to support a multisite longitudinal study in adolescent substance use and pain. The study aims to identify the risk of opioid use disorder in adolescent post-surgical patients through survey and medical record data. The Clinical Research Assistant will screen, consent, and recruit adolescents and parents/caregivers. They will ensure data quality across surveys and electronic medical record extracts. The candidate will interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds and must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Screening and recruiting participants based on study criteria.
  • Obtaining informed consent from adolescent surgical patients and parent/caregivers.
  • Entering and maintaining accurate data on forms (including electronic medical records, eCRFs, study logs, clinical trial management software) used to chart participants' involvement in the study.
  • Developing relationships with clinical personnel and research staff across study sites.
  • Preparing regulatory documentation, including documents for the Institutional Review Board (IRB).
  • Assisting with literature reviews and writing articles, presentations, and summary papers.
  • Participating in the training of newly hired research assistants, as required.
  • Performing other miscellaneous administrative duties as assigned or required.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • A bachelor's degree in psychology, health, social work, or science-related field is required (prior clinical research experience preferred).

Experience:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including strong listening and observation skills to capture nuanced information.
  • Exemplary attention to detail.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office suite and electronic data capture platforms.
  • Advanced writing skills.
  • The ability to take initiative and work independently as well as in a team-based setting.
  • Analytical skills to gather and interpret data in which the information or problems are complex.

The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting. Any base pay offer provided depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other job-related factors.
