Dr. Bo Yang's current lab research focuses on the mechanisms of thoracic aortic aneurysms, which is largely unknown, especially in those with unknown mutations (such as bicuspid aortic valve), and developing novel therapies to prevent aortic aneurysms. He and his team generate patient specific induced pleuripotent stem cells (iPSCs) to model the thoracic aortic aneurysm in order to study the mechanisms of aneurysm formation in bicuspid aortic valve (BAV), Loeys-Dietz Syndrome, Marfan syndrome.
This role will serve in the clinical, patient-facing aspect of Dr. Yang's research.
This is the entry level position on the Michigan Medicine CRC Career Ladder. This position provides administrative and coordination support for multiple projects in the conduct of clinical research projects. This position may assist with study coordination but will not be assigned clinical trials independently. This position may provide coordination for clinical research projects such as registries, retrospective data reviews, studies in long-term follow-up, and other non-interventional studies.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Attending and participating in all training classes assigned to this level (Ex: PEERRS, HIPAA, CITI GCP)
- Screening clinical patients and OR cases for Dr. Yang’s research studies
- Identifying cases for aortic tissue collection and collecting tissue during procedures
- Consenting patients for aortic research studies conducted by Dr. Yang
- Coordinating with Dr. Yang’s lab to transfer tissues samples from the Cardiovascular Center to the North Campus Research Complex (NCRC)
- Maintaining sample collection database
- Editing OR videos
- Meeting with Dr. Yang’s lab at NCRC monthly
- Entering data and running reports from study database
- Seeking appropriate help in attempting to solve problems
- Communicating service delays to supervisors and research participants in a timely manner
- Cooperating and supporting the team's functions
- Serving as a resource for Dr. Yang's undergraduate students
- Submitting continuing reviews, amendments, and post correspondence in eResearch
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Supervision Received:
This position reports directly to the Clinical Research Manager for the Department of Cardiac Surgery. This position will have functional supervision by Dr. Bo Yang.

Required Qualification:
- High school diploma or GED is necessary.
Desired Qualification:
- Bachelor's degree in Health Science or an equivalent combination of related education and experience is desirable.
- An understanding of medical terminology, experience in a large complex health care setting, ability to effectively communicate with staff and faculty of all levels, and knowledge of university policies and procedures is desirable.
- Knowledge of cardiovascular physiology, specifically concerning the aorta and aortic valve
Hours/Week: 40 hours on site
Shift/Hours/Days: Days, occasional evening, potential weekends
