Clinical Research Fellow

About Us

The School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences seeks to appoint an enthusiastic and proactive clinical research fellow to undertake research and imaging activities to spearhead the deployment of an innovative app designed to triage brain MRI scans across multiple NHS hospitals.

The successful candidate will be instrumental in organising and conducting the trial study, working closely with specialised staff members.

This exciting and innovative research was recently awarded a multi-million grant. The post holder will be a member of a multidisciplinary team and will play a key role in supporting the team in delivering on the aims of the project.

About The Role

The role centres on the successful deployment and integration of an AI triage tool across participating NHS hospitals, requiring close coordination to ensure the application integrates seamlessly into existing workflows. It involves collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders—including radiologists, IT teams, software developers, administrative staff, and clinical leaders—to support implementation, deliver training, and provide ongoing assistance to end-users. Strong digital and IT competence is essential, particularly the ability to translate between clinical and technical language while working with radiology informatics teams. A solid understanding of DICOM standards, PACS and RIS environments, GDPR, and image transfer workflows is crucial, alongside familiarity with cloud-based systems, and other modern deployment architectures (vendor-neutral platforms).

The position also requires preparing clear, detailed reports and presentations to inform senior management and guide decision-making. A continuous improvement mindset is key, with responsibilities including identifying barriers to adoption, proposing practical solutions, and applying logical problem-solving to issues such as data export challenges, connectivity problems, or access permissions. Awareness of AI validation processes, safe integration practices, regulatory considerations, and secure data handling is equally important, particularly in settings where workflows vary, and unexpected technical issues are common. Compliance with NHS policies, ethical standards, and regulatory frameworks underpins all activities, with strict attention to patient confidentiality and the ability to contribute to DPIAs and data governance documentation.

Desirable attributes include familiarity with NHS systems and GDPR requirements, previous healthcare project-management experience, strong IT literacy, and a proactive, adaptable approach that supports effective independent work as well as collaboration within multidisciplinary teams.

This is a full time (40 Hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 1st Jan 2029.
