Clinical Research Study Assistant II (Hybrid) - Neurology
Position Summary
Dr. Randall Bateman’s lab investigates the causes, and future diagnosis and treatments of Alzheimer’s disease utilizing a wide variety of assays and techniques from basic applications, such as quantitative measurement of stable-isotope labeled peptides to clinical translational studies in diagnostic and therapeutic biomarkers for Alzheimer’s disease. We have an ongoing clinical study to collect matched blood and cerebrospinal fluid from patients with memory concerns in the clinic, and a study called the Study to Understand Novel Biomarkers in Researching Dementia (SUNBIRD) to validate blood biomarkers for Alzheimer’s disease in a large clinic-based cohort.
This position is a member of a multidisciplinary research team and performs a variety of research, data base, and clerical duties of a routine and technical nature in support of clinical research to ensure adherence to protocols and quality of information received. This position involves interactions with research participants, family, and caregivers in a research setting. This position interacts with participants who have mild to moderate dementia and healthy control volunteers.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Participates in the recruitment of study participants as identified in related protocol; visits with study participants to explain study, screens for eligibility and obtains informed consent of participants.
- Processes blood samples, including centrifugation of blood samples and aliquoting plasma into tubes. Documents processing conditions and maintains log of sample location.
- Completes all necessary paperwork/documentation according to study protocol; obtains consent, interviews study subjects and schedules follow-ups as needed.
- Performs basic/scripted assessments to confirm eligibility to participate in study; explains and schedules laboratory and diagnostic procedures and/or treatment as required in the study; refers participants to basic resources as necessary.
- Collects data from study participants, medical records, interviews, questionnaires, diagnostic tests and other sources; performs basic evaluation and interpretation of collected data and prepares appropriate reports and documentation as necessary; prepares and distributes study packets and information.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent high school certification or combination of education and/or experience.
Certifications/Professional Licenses: Basic Life Support - American Heart Association, Basic Life Support - American Red Cross
Work Experience: Administrative Or Research (2 Years)
Required Qualifications:
- Basic Life Support certification must be obtained within one month of hire date.
- Basic Life Support certification (Online Basic Life Support certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the Basic Life Support requirements).
