Simon Business School at the University of Rochester invites applications for an Executive or Clinical Professor (open rank) with
substantial professional experience in management consulting to play a significant role in the School's MBA program.
We seek an
accomplished consulting professional who is excited about bringing the methods, disciplines, and perspectives of consulting practice into a
leading business school environment. The successful candidate will have a substantial instructional role; develop and supervise
consulting-oriented experiential projects with industry partners; and coach students pursuing consulting careers.
The position is
particularly well suited to an experienced consulting professional interested in applying the knowledge, judgment, and relationships
developed over a successful industry career to teaching, mentoring, and developing the next generation of business leaders.
Key
Responsibilities
Teaching and Curriculum Development
The faculty member will have a substantial instructional role in the MBA
program and may also contribute to other Simon graduate and undergraduate programs. Teaching responsibilities are expected to include
courses and learning experiences in areas such as:
- Structured problem solving, including framing ambiguous business problems,
developing hypotheses, prioritizing analyses, synthesizing evidence, and translating analysis into recommendations; - Consulting
methods and problem-solving approaches used by leading strategy and management consulting organizations; - Business process analysis,
design, and improvement, including diagnosing processes and identifying improvement opportunities; - Executive communication and
recommendation development, including communicating complex analyses clearly and persuasively; and - Related areas drawing on the
faculty member's professional expertise.
They will provide high-quality in-person, synchronous online, and asynchronous
instruction and will develop and manage course materials, assessments, and related activities in accordance with applicable University and
School policies.
Experiential Learning and Industry Projects
A key component of the role will be expanding opportunities for
Simon students to work on substantive consulting-style projects with external organizations. The faculty member will:
- Help
develop relationships with companies, consulting firms, alumni, nonprofit organizations, and other partners that can provide high-quality
experiential projects; - Work with organizational sponsors to scope meaningful projects that provide strong learning opportunities for
students; - Supervise and coach student consulting teams throughout their engagements; and
- Help students develop the
professional disciplines associated with high-quality consulting, including problem definition, analytical rigor, project management, client
communication, teamwork, and synthesis;
Student Career Advising and Coaching
Working in partnership with Simon's career
services team and other faculty and staff, the faculty member will serve as an important resource for students pursuing consulting careers.
Responsibilities will include:
- Advising students on careers in strategy, management, specialized, internal, and related
consulting and advisory roles; - Coaching students on consulting recruiting, including case and behavioral interviews, networking, and
professional positioning; - Mentoring students as they evaluate consulting opportunities and prepare for internships and full-time
positions; and - Contributing to workshops, case-preparation activities, speaker programs, employer engagement, and other
consulting-related career-development initiatives.
Compensation
In compliance with the NY Pay Transparency Act, the
annual base salary range for this position is $130,000 - $260,000. The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation
for this job. Individual annual salaries will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors
including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity
considerations.

Qualifications
Candidates
should bring substantial professional experience in management consulting or closely related advisory work, including significant
responsibility for solving complex client problems, leading engagements or teams, and working with senior executives.
Required qualifications include:
- Graduate degree in business or related field
- Significant
professional experience in management consulting or closely related advisory work; - Interest and ability to teach MBA, MS, and
Undergraduate students in problem solving, consulting, and related areas of the Simon School curriculum.
Previous
university-level teaching experience is desirable but not required for candidates who demonstrate exceptional communication, facilitation,
mentoring, and professional-development capabilities.
Deep scholarly research credentials are not a central criterion for
this role. We seek a practitioner-faculty member whose professional accomplishments, expertise, judgment, and ability to develop
students will materially enhance Simon's consulting-related curriculum, experiential learning opportunities, and student outcomes.
