Role Summary
The Certified Nurse Aide Instructor performs; Training, Certification & Recertification and Registration Program to ensure that individuals meet both the state and federal requirements for a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) and are on the Indiana Nurse Aide Registry. This program is administered by the Indiana Department of Health (IDOH).

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for conducting nurse aide classes/training at approved locations.
  • Curriculum and instruction to include assisting in development and teaching lesson plans covering nursing principles, patient care, first aid, vital signs, and safety, integrating theory with practical skills.
  • Clinical supervision to include overseeing and guiding students during hands-on practice in lab and clinical settings, ensuring proper application of skills.
  • Student management includes mentoring, motivating, and evaluating students from diverse backgrounds, preparing them for the state certification exam.
  • Program coordination and completion including organizing program logistics, maintaining student records, and report on student achievement.
  • Monitor and work with students to ensure resident care procedures are taught according to policies.
  • Work with clinical leaders at each facility to ensure students are following procedures/protocols per state regulation.
  • Provide ongoing training and education to new students and approved remedial activities for existing and prior students.
  • Perform training and education at clinical sites checking in with students and preceptors.
  • Assist with updates to training curriculums as approved by IDOH.
  • Ensure student files are maintained and current.
  • Maintain up to date files on approved classroom and clinical locations.
  • Communicates, with as much lead time as possible, with VU management and students on class schedules, timing and other changes.
  • Comply with privacy practices and procedures related to clinical records and all state and federal privacy practices and procedures related to clinical records and all state and federal privacy laws as outlined by HIPAA.
  • Comply with the appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required by the Blood borne Pathogens Standards. Protective Personal Equipment (PPE), including personal protective equipment for eyes, face, extremities, protective clothing, and protective shield and barriers, will be provided, used, and maintained.
  • Must maintain appropriate vaccinations as required to teach, perform clinicals and other policy requirements of the location and VU.
  • Professional Development: Stay updated on nursing and education standards, professional ethics, and new teaching methods
  • Participate in recruitment and retention activities
  • Participate in program assessment
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Your Qualifications
Essential
  • Preferred - Registered Nurse (RN) licensed in the state of Indiana
  • A delegated instructor may be a LPN, appropriately licensed in Indiana
  • Minimum of one year nursing experience, two years preferred.
  • At least one year in Long Term Care services
  • Documented proof of completion of an Indiana Department of Health (IDH) approved training course (Train the Trainer)
  • In good standing and meet all other Indiana Department of Health (IDOH) conditions as a CNA instructor prior to start and throughout class.
  • To be considered for additional CNA Director duties a letter of approval from IDH prior to beginning the CNA (this can be applied for after attending the Train the Trainer program) as well as Train the Trainer completion and subsequent IDOH requirements.
  • History of working cohesively and cooperatively with the IDOH
  • Ability to foster a positive learning environment for students
  • Commitment and desire to go above and beyond to serve our diverse community
Supplemental Skills / Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree with Registered Nurse licensing preferred
  • Associate's degree or higher in Nursing or related field with Limited Nurse Practitioner licensing.
  • Experience teaching and training
  • Experience with IDOH testing and certification processes for CNA’s.
