Communications and Engagement Manager

About the Role

The Communications and Engagement Manager is central to embedding the One King’s Impact (OKI) approach across King’s, ensuring its success through strategic communications and engagement that reflects the university’s values and ambitions. The role holder will deliver an integrated communications and engagement strategy for OKI, including promotion of the One King’s Impact Fund, showcasing One King’s Impact funded projects and engaging a diverse range of stakeholders through the King’s Impact Changemakers Network. They will also lead the delivery of the inaugural OKI Conference and promote King’s thought leadership externally.

Responsibilities include:

  • Deliver and refine the OKI integrated communications and engagement strategy in collaboration with the Senior Communications & Engagement Manager (IES) and in consultation with the Strategic Programme Manager.
  • Lead the creation and maintenance of high-quality, engaging content and assets, including website copy, video, reports, and other digital and print media, to inspire internal and external audiences, maintaining OKI’s visual identity in line with King’s brand guidelines.
  • Manage OKI’s digital and social media presence across King’s channels, ensuring consistent messaging and maximum visibility.
  • Collaborate with communications professionals across faculties and directorates to amplify OKI’s reach.
  • Design and oversee targeted engagement campaigns that promote OKI at King’s, including promotion of the OKI Fund, funded projects and initiatives that exemplify the OKI approach.
  • Coordinate with the Strategic Programme Manager (OKI) to engage diverse internal and external stakeholders through the King’s Impact Changemakers Network, including events, networking and training.
  • Create and deliver related engagement opportunities for students and staff, such as workshops, seminars, and conferences, that communicate key messages and encourage active participation.
  • Work with a range of colleagues to deliver the inaugural One King's Impact Conference, showcasing OKI’s approach and impact.
  • Support the Vice President (IES) and Director of Service & Impact in positioning King’s as a sector thought leader, including drafting and placing opinion pieces and blogs.

The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.

The role offers flexibility on working hours and pattern, which may support applicants who have family, caring or similar responsibilities.

This is a part time post (14 hours a week), covering a period of Maternity Leave and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 31/01/27

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  1. Proven experience in strategic communications and engagement within complex organisations.
  2. Strong event planning and delivery skills, including experience managing high-profile events.
  3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate presentations and technical reports to a wide audience, including non-specialist ones.
  4. Experience of creating different types of content for wide ranging audiences, e.g. website copy, video, reports, articles.
  5. Experience using website content management systems to publish, edit and maintain digital content e.g., Contensis.
  6. Excellent stakeholder management skills, with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse communities and a developed sense of cultural competency and emotional intelligence.
  7. Excellent project management skills, with the ability to deliver outcomes on time and to budget.

Desirable criteria

  1. Educated to degree level or equivalent qualification.
  2. Experience in developing impact communication and strategies.
  3. Understanding of impact and knowledge exchange in its widest context and appreciation of the different ways in which universities can contribute to society, the economy and the environment.
