Communications Manager - Beeck Center for Social Impact Innovation

Georgetown University comprises two unique campuses in the nation's capital. With the Hilltop Campus located in the heart of the historic Georgetown neighborhood, and the Capitol Campus, just minutes from the U.S. Capitol and U.S. Supreme Court, Georgetown University offers rigorous academic programs, a global perspective, and unparalleled opportunities to engage with Washington, D.C. Our community is a close-knit group of remarkable individuals driven by intellectual inquiry, a commitment to social justice, and a shared dedication to making a difference in the world.

The Beeck Center for Social Impact + Innovation improves systems that are the foundation for daily life, using data, design, technology, and policy as instruments for equitable societal change.

The Communications Manager helps shape and execute an integrated communications strategy that amplifies our work in digital government, data, benefits access, and emerging technology. The Communications Manager advances the Beeck Center's mission and brand by transforming complex and technical ideas into accessible, compelling, human-centered narratives. A successful candidate will bring a strong mix of writing, content creation, project management, stakeholder engagement, and media relations. Collaborating across the Center, the Communications Manager ensures messaging is clear, consistent, and impactful.

The Communications Manager reports to the Director of Communications and works collaboratively with a dynamic team that includes the Development + Impact Communications Senior Manager, the Marketing and Communications Associate, and Student Analysts, as well as contractors such as a graphic designer, copy editor, web developer, and PR agency. In this role, you'll represent the communications team in strategic and planning conversations with teams across the organization. The Beeck Center operates as a distributed team, with some team members working remotely and others working in-person in our Washington, D.C. offices. A distributed team means there will be heavy reliance on asynchronous communication channels such as Slack, Asana, and email, while also having many meetings fully virtual or hybrid to include remote employees, using Zoom.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 3-5 years of experience in communications, journalism, public affairs, or a related field required (or equivalent combination of education and work experience)
  • A natural collaborator who thrives in fast-moving environments and can coordinate across multiple stakeholders and projects.
  • Proactive and highly organized professional with a strong sense of initiative
  • An exceptional writer and editor with a sharp eye for detail and a strong sense of voice, tone, and audience.
  • A systems thinker who brings structure to ambiguity and can manage multiple complex projects with confidence

The Communications Manager should be familiar with the following or equivalent platforms:

  • Content & Editorial: Google Workspace and familiarity with AP Style
  • Project Management: Airtable, Asana, Slack, Miro
  • Email & Web: Mailchimp, WordPress, Google Analytics / GA4
  • Social & Media: LinkedIn, Twitter/X, Instagram, Bluesky, Sprout Social or Hootsuite, Meltwater, and Cision
  • Design & Creative: Canva, Adobe Creative Suite (Acrobat, InDesign), Figma

Work Mode Designation: This position has been designated as Hybrid. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University. Such review may necessitate a change to a position's mode of work designation. Complete details about Georgetown University's mode of work designations for staff positions can be found on the Department of Human Resources website: https://hr.georgetown.edu/mode-of-work-designation. With the hybrid designation, this role will be expected to work on average 2 days a week from the Beeck Center's two office spaces in Washington, D.C.: primarily from our office at Georgetown's Capitol Campus downtown and periodically from Georgetown University's Hilltop Campus. We prioritize spending time in person with our student analysts for collaboration and career development as well as building relations across the various other centers on campus.

Benefits: Georgetown University offers a comprehensive and competitive benefit package that includes medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, retirement savings, tuition assistance, work-life balance benefits, employee discounts and an array of voluntary insurance options. You can learn more about benefits and eligibility on the Department of Human Resources website.
