POSITION SUMMARY
The communications manager will manage the daily social media and online communications of the Digital Storytelling Lab and the Center as a whole, focusing on public engagement and growing the online community. This person will work closely with DSL and Center staff, as well as with all affiliated students, to design new posts, curate other people’s work into online posts, and work to discover new ways to build the online community. This person will also work with DSL and Center staff to help execute the goals of the DSL, including student engagement, project management, and general staff support.
This position is a 5-year grant funded position, through a grant received from the Lilly Foundation
This is a full-time, in-person position at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, with multiple days per week in the office.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- To provide day-to-day communications management of the center and DSL, including social media, email, website and newsletters. This includes authoring new posts, curating existing work, marketing and distribution, and helping to develop new online presences.
- To assist in the project management of the DSL and Center, including helping to plan and implement aspects of the grant. This could include helping to plan student fellowships, online campaigns, subgrant programs, and public workshops.
- To represent the Center and DSL as an ambassador to students and the general public in a variety of forms, including individually and in group settings, in person and online, at workshops, courses, and other public events.
- To work closely with the Center and DSL staff to help envision and execute the broad vision of the Center.
- Completes other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, preferably in Communications, Media Studies, or Design. Or a degree in an unrelated field with equivalent experience in communications.
The successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential job functions. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:
This position requires strong knowledge of and skills in online and in-person communication. This includes video, image, and text communication for social media and related websites. This position requires a high degree of comfort in the online and social media space, and a desire to spend significant portions of time developing a presence in that space. Skills also includes the ability to plan, or learn how to plan, such communications, and the desire to work closely with a team to execute a wider vision.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the University Community.
