Job Summary

This position will assist in the planning, administration, and operations to support Recreation & Wellbeing (Rec Well) Community Programs Department Youth and Camp programs. Rec Well Summer Camp serves children ages 5-14 in a 9-week summer day camp program. Rec Well Summer Camp is accredited through the American Camp Association and licensed through the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families. Academic Year programs include single-day camps, swim lessons, and ice skate lessons.

The candidate in this role must maintain compliance with all federal, state, campus, and divisional youth protection policies, including completion of mandatory trainings, a Criminal Background Check and National Sex Offender Registry check.

Specific responsibilities will be determined in conjunction with the successful candidate.

Academic Year (Aug-May) Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the planning and improvement of the Rec Well Summer Camp Program.
  • Coordinate program communication efforts through email service account(s) and phone calls.
  • Develop Summer 2027 Camp Themes and Field Trips.
  • Assist in management of camp registration software for over 400 families.
  • Hire, train, and assist in the supervision of Camp Supervisors and Counselors.
  • Assist in budget development and tracking.
  • May hire, train, and supervise one Student Lead.
  • May assist in operations of additional Community Programs programming, such as swim lesson, American Red Cross Programs, and ice skate lessons.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Summer Responsibilities (May-Aug):

  • Support daily camp operations by serving as a main point-of-contact for camp staff and grown-ups.
  • Assist with the training, supervision, and evaluation of 8 camp supervisors and 40 camp counselors.
  • Provide high quality customer service and communication for summer camp families through weekly newsletters, signage, emails, phone calls, etc..
  • Plan and facilitate weekly staff in-services for camp supervisors and camp counselors.
  • Review and maintain program and facility schedules for internal and external stakeholders.
  • May assist in risk management including skill audits, risk assessment, and policy compliance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Engages in the Rec Well professional internship development curriculum, all staff meetings, divisional committees, and other professional development responsibilities and opportunities.
  • Identifies, proposes, and implements new or revised operational policies and procedures
  • Develops targeted communication plans and materials based on established goals
  • Prepares and monitors budgets and purchases expenditures as needed
  • Coordinates logistics for events and programs
  • Assists in implementing the staffing resource allocation plan including hiring, training, and supervision

Compensation:

$22.50/Hour

Work Schedule:

Monday-Friday 7:30-6pm. Times will vary by day and there is flexibility.

Since this position will work from August 2026-August 2027, the average weekly hour breakdown will be:

  • Fall Semester: 15-18 hours per week
  • Spring Semester: 25 hours per week
  • Summer Semester: 25 hours per week

Job Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in youth programs, such as summer camp or after-school programs
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high quality customer service and clearly answer program inquiries through verbal or written communication
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) or similar software
  • Experience with recreation program administration and/or events
  • Experience supervising, leading, or managing staff or peers is preferred

Academic Professional Internship Information:

  • Internships are limited-time employments lasting 9 months or 1,040 total hours
  • Internship dates are approximate and will run mid-August 2026 to May 2027

Education:

  • HS Diploma – Required
  • Bachelor's Degree - Achieve or advancing towards Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field.
