Job Description:
The Computer Consultant II provides comprehensive IT support for their assigned department or college, including service requests, purchase recommendations, and support for desktop hardware and software, remote access solutions, tablets, and smartphones. This position is critical to ongoing operations by delivering elevated computer and application support.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Three (3+) plus years relevant experience in information technologies/computer science as necessary.
- Drivers License and a vehicle are required for this position.
Skills and Knowledge:
Specialized knowledge includes understanding of IT hardware; Windows 11 and Mac deployment; PowerShell scripting; virtualization and security fundamentals; software and operating system interactions; networking; printer and printing capabilities; cellular technologies for client device support; and mobile computing platforms.
Responsibilities:
- This position has an emphasis on 'in-person' support. The majority of time is spent on campus assisting with direct client and classroom support. Strong collaboration with team members is essential to coordinate efforts, share knowledge, and provide consistent, high-quality service to our clients.
- Use computing concepts, documented procedures, and knowledge of SUs systems to address a wide variety of IT support requests, including but not limited to general hardware and software break/fix and hardware and software installation.
- Effectively prioritize incoming support tickets, coordinate and schedule with users, and provide cross-unit support as requested by supervisor.
- Manage hardware inventory of assigned area, plan upgrade lifecycle, and work with units to replace aging equipment as necessary.
- Maintain a familiarity with departments specific needs, applications, and hardware configurations.
- Interface with vendors and other 3rd parties to provide technical support and ensure systems are adhering to University policy.
- Work with assigned department leads to ensure business goals are aligned with technical processes. Identify opportunities to improve business processes through technical means.
