Contract Negotiator

Position Summary

Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Contract Negotiator for University Procurement Services. Reporting to the Contract Manager, this position is responsible for independently negotiating and managing goods and services contracts in alignment with Rutgers University business requirements and objectives, best practices in procurement and strategic sourcing and Rutgers University Procurement and Payment Policy. This position is the central point of contact for suppliers, internal procurement personnel and departments for the contract areas that the position manages.

Key Duties:

  • Prepares, reviews and negotiates complex supplier contracts, including high-value/mission-critical departmental contracts for multiple categories and types of purchases.
  • Handles all redlines in contracts and related documents, and negotiates changes to ensure that Rutgers is securing the best value in its contracts.
  • Collaborates closely and provides critical support to the Contracts Team, Strategic Sourcing Team, Supplier Relationship Managers, Transactional Team and various Stakeholders to understand their specific contractual challenges and provide guidance to develop solutions consistent with business needs for the University's acquisition of products and services.
  • Reviews requisitions associated with assigned contracts and processes requisition in accordance with University Procurement policies and procedures.
  • Advises/represents Rutgers on contractual topics and negotiations.
  • Acts as a point of contact for all formal and legal correspondence relating to contractual matters.
  • Works closely with University General Counsel, Risk Management, University Communications and Marketing, and other departments as required to ensure that terms and conditions are in compliance with appropriate policy, procedure, legal risk management, and insurance policies and procedures and best business practices.
  • Manages assigned contracts over their lifecycle tracking and implements any need for amendments, renewals, terminations and other necessary contractual action.
  • Prepares a report of contracted suppliers that can be utilized university wide or by individual departments to procure goods and services, including, but not limited to, RFP contracts, sole/single source contracts, state contracts and group purchasing agreements.

Minimum Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Five (5) years of experience in finance, including but not limited to, drafting and negotiating contracts.

Equipment Utilized:

RU Marketplace, Rutgers' procurement system, Powered by Jaggaer, including Total Contract Manager, the system's contract management module.
