Position Information:
Reporting to the Financial Operations Manager, provide leadership and support for the financial management of the Departments of Biochemistry, Nematology, Plant Pathology and Microbiology, and the Center for Conservation Biology. Uses skills as an experienced research administrator to independently develop and coordinate research proposals for an assigned portfolio of Principal Investigators. Post-award contract and grant management and maintains contract and grant records in compliance with institutional research sponsor policies. Creates proposals and awards of diverse scope where data analysis requires a thorough understanding of complex regulations. Creates complex proposals and awards that may involve multiple investigators and multiple sub-awards. Performs complex budget/resource analysis including forecasting, retrieving data from campus financial systems, organizing and validating data, and preparing comprehensive reports for principal management. Participates in the design of department systems and processes to enhance processing and reporting tools.
The full salary range for the Grants & Financial Analyst is $68,500 - $121,900 annually. However, the expected pay scale for this position is $68,500 - $90,000 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.
Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.

Educational Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Required
Experience Requirements
- 4 - 7 years of related experience. Required
- Experience with UC Policies and Procedures. Preferred
Minimum Requirements
- Thorough understanding of research administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc.
- Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration.
- Ability to manage significant volume of transactions.
- Ability to perform complex financial analysis and customized reporting.
- Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles.
- Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports.
- Ability to maintain independent judgment; strong organization and communication skills; and a customer service focus across broad and diverse subject areas.
- Demonstrated knowledge of effective grant funding processes, procedures and techniques.
- Strong writing skills in a variety of styles to draft persuasive text for a variety of audiences while ensuring adherence to funding sponsor's guidelines.
- Independent judgment and strong organization and communication skills and customer service focus across broad and diverse subject areas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provides post-award financial administration and management for research funds in accordance with organization policy and agency requirements. 20%
- Department Role (DR): Organizes, plans, establishes and monitors fiscal budget control of contracts and grants administration, gifts, endowments and privately funded projects for faculty research programs. 10%
- (DR): Prepares complex proposal budgets and support documents that are required by proposal guidelines. 10%
- Applies professional knowledge/experience to prepare, review and/or approve financial transactions. 10%
- Independently gathers information as needed to perform financial analysis. 10%
- (CR): Applies contracts and grants concepts to review complex grant or contract proposals and obtain/verify necessary compliance approvals, and recommend/negotiate needed changes to proposals with PIs and/or department administrators. Researches, develops and implements new research initiatives. 5%
- Provides guidance and counsel on complex research administration matters, including compliance regulations, to principal investigators and department administrators. 5%
- Assists in support of audits as directed by senior staff. 5%
- (CR): Previews pre-award update information requested by sponsor representatives before issue of awards and submission. 5%
- (CR): Authorizes establishment of complex contract and grant fund accounts with approval of other analysts, director or other authorized institutional official. 5%
- Organizes, plans, establishes, and monitors fiscal budget control of sales & service, gifts, endowments, and privately funded projects for faculty research programs. 5%
- Post-award process also requires complex knowledge and understanding of payroll processes in order to initiate transactions, prepare adjustments, and provide projections which are necessary to manage the overall budget. 5%
- Prepare specialized ad hoc agency reports. 5%
