About This Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and highly capable Coordinator, Animal Technical to support the delivery of high-quality animal research services within a dynamic and specialised research environment. Working within a collaborative and inclusive team, you will provide advanced technical expertise across animal husbandry, complex breeding programs, and research support, while contributing to safe, ethical, and compliant operations across diverse research settings.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Coordinating daily operations across SPF and conventional rodent facilities, including planning and implementing workflows, managing resources, and ensuring the efficient delivery of services with a high degree of autonomy
- Supervising animal care, husbandry, and technical support for research colonies, ensuring high standards of welfare across species and performing or overseeing specialised procedures within PC2 environments
- Managing complex breeding and colony programs, including breeding strategies, colony monitoring, genotyping coordination, and ensuring delivery of animals to meet research requirements
- Ensuring compliance with animal ethics, biosafety, and regulatory frameworks, while contributing to training, operational planning, stakeholder collaboration, and continuous improvement initiatives
About You
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
- A degree in a relevant discipline such as animal science, or equivalent combination of experience and specialist knowledge in animal technology
- Extensive experience in animal handling, husbandry, welfare, and biosecurity within a research setting
- Proven experience managing complex breeding colonies and supporting research programs, including regulatory compliance
- Demonstrated ability to perform humane euthanasia and support animal health monitoring programs
- Capability to work independently, solve problems, and adapt across diverse and specialised research environments
- Experience training and supervising staff or students, with a focus on building capability and promoting best practice
- Strong organisational and record-keeping skills, including data management and adherence to compliance requirements
- A collaborative mindset with the ability to engage effectively with researchers and stakeholders
Desirable:
- Experience in advanced procedures including anaesthesia, surgery, and specialised research techniques
- Practical knowledge of laboratory or facility equipment and mechanical systems
- Relevant licences or certifications
