Job Description Summary

Under general direction of the Dean of Academic Pathways and Student Success, plans and develops methods, procedures and practices to implement and administer the activities in the Learning Resource Center including the Tutorial Program, Electronic Classroom, Math Lab, Science Lab, and the Computer Assisted Instructional Lab.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Directs and coordinates activities in the day-to-day operation of the Learning Resource Center ( LRC ).
  • Supervises and coordinates computer labs in or associated with the Learning Resource Center.
  • Recommends and implements policies and procedures; maintains records and accounting of all components of the LRC .
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, trains and supervises student assistants and tutors; prepares employment documents, student time sheets, student evaluations; prepares work schedules.
  • Plans, develops, implements and disseminates information regarding the activities in the LRC
  • Maintains the security and accessibility of LRC materials, books, tapes, software and equipment.
  • Assists math, English and other faculty in developing supplemental instruction.
  • Develops study strategy videos and other materials.
  • Works with faculty and staff to hire, train, schedule and supervise tutors and student assistants.
  • Develops and monitors LRC budget, prepares reports and records concerning budgetary activities; prepares student and classified staff personnel actions and timesheets.
  • Coordinates and conducts student orientations, including LRC policies and procedures.
  • Works with administrators and department chairs to schedule faculty in the LRC .
  • Supports the development and implementation of the tutoring program.
  • Coordinates test proctoring services.
  • Assists librarians and staff in coordinating instructional services as needed
  • Identifies supply and equipment needs and prepares requisitions.
  • Maintains inventory of and repair of equipment.
  • Administers testing, schedules staff and student appointments.
  • Assists in the implementation of the early alert system.
  • Prepares reports and compiles information as required by state mandates; interprets rules, regulations and procedures related to the matriculation process; creates database of assessment.
  • Serves as a member of the college-wide integrated planning committee.
  • Monitors and recommends staffing needs, computer lab needs and software updates.
  • Works with academic administrators and faculty and staff to develop new components of the LRC, including but not limited to on-line assessment and tutoring, workshops, proctoring services and instructions for students with disabilities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college or university in one of the social sciences, business or a directly related field and four (4) years of experience in performing professional-level work involving planning, directing, budgeting, supervising and evaluating relation to coordinating a learning resource center, administering an assessment and tutorial program; or an equivalent combination of education and qualifying professional experience that would provide the knowledge and abilities needed to perform the duties of the position.
  2. Knowledge of, and proficiency in the operation and use of personal computers utilizing word processing, spreadsheet and database management software programs (e.g. MS Office Suite, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access and MS PowerPoint.)
  3. Applicant must have demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college staff, faculty, and students.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience working in a community college or a related field.

Knowledge of:

  • Principles and practices of effective supervision of others
  • Program evaluation techniques and methodology
  • Application of State, Federal and District laws, regulations and guidelines that govern administration of activity of assignment
  • Budget development and administration

Ability to:

  • Plan, organize and direct the work of others
  • Train, evaluate and develop staff assigned to the activity
  • Interpret laws and regulations
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports
  • Communicate effectively in the oral and written form
