GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Responsible for the overall leadership, development, coordination, direction, and best practices of campus mental health services. This includes counseling services, wellness services, outreach and programming, student immunization records, and documentation collection around current, or future, pandemics. Manages the daily operations of Counseling Services, including personal counseling, mental health crisis management, immunizations, budget, outreach and wellness programs, and the coordination and evaluation of all programs and services. Works with Academic Affairs to develop faculty training and provides training, workshops and consultation to the campus community regarding student mental health and wellness needs. Serves as an ad-hoc member of Students of Concern Committees. Assists the Vice President of Student Affairs in the accomplishment of annual objectives in support of strategic goals and the mission of LIM College.
SALARY RANGE: $90,000-$120,000
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
COUNSELING SERVICES
- Provide appropriate psychological services based on best practices for college and university counseling services
- Develop relationships with psychiatric and medical resources and make appropriate referrals
- Assist in coordination and implementation of the Emergency Response Plan in regard to psychological emergencies
- Manage and evaluate the psychological and medical documentation associated with the medical withdrawal program
- Publish appropriate educational materials appropriate for the College community with regards to Counseling Services, including content for the website, brochures, and booklets
- Assess and develop mental health and wellness activities and programs for the student body based on student needs and best practices
- Develop workshops to educate staff and faculty regarding various psychological issues and assist students in distress.
- Work with Housing and Residence Life staff to develop mental health and wellness programs for a residential population
ACADEMIC AND STUDENT SUCCESS PROGRAMS
- Provide training to faculty regarding recognizing and assisting students in distress and policies and procedures to help ensure students reach their fullest academic potential.
- Attend Student Success, USOC, GSOC, and BIT meetings as needed and provide consultation and guidance to staff and faculty who contact the committees regarding student mental health concerns.
- Conduct assessments for students who may need to take a medical leave of absence and assess their readiness to return to studies after leave
IMMUNIZATION
- Supervise LIM College’s immunization program for both undergraduate and graduate students
- Ensure that LIM College’s Immunization program complies with New York State Immunization Laws
- Do periodic audits of Immunization records to ensure compliance
SUPERVISION
- Supervision and overall responsibility for the professional development of the counseling services staff
- Recruit, interview, supervise and evaluate all department staff, including counseling interns based on assessed need
OFFICE MANAGEMENT AND GENERAL ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
- Prepare and manage the department’s budget
- Write department reports, manage data on student usage of services, and complete other reports as requested
- Participate in all college-wide programs as requested
- Attend meetings with the Vice President of Student Affairs and other college administrators and staff as required
- Oversight of the department website
- Management of the Electronic Medical Records System
- Maintain relationships and oversee consultation services such as consulting psychiatrist, external health services partnerships, and Alcohol, Cannabis, and Other Drug interventions
- Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS: The person selected will have the following qualifications:
Education/Certification Requirement:
- Licensed Psychologist in New York State
- Applicable laws, regulations, and best practices concerning counseling and psychological services, and immunization compliance.
- Three (3) to Five (5) years of experience in counseling center administration
- Good writing, interpersonal, and public relations skills
- Solid analytical, creative, and problem-solving abilities
- Project management skills and well-organized
- Able to work well independently
