Pre-Licensure Psychologist
Position Summary
As a member of the Counseling Services, the Pre-Licensure Psychologist provides assessment and clinical care to a diverse population of Columbia University Irving Medical Center students and their dependents.
Responsibilities
- Facilitation of the evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, consultation, and referral of students for appropriate care in the support of academic success and retention.
- Provision of care in an interpersonally and culturally sensitive manner.
- Documentation of care as prescribed by law and in accordance with best practices.
- Counseling and providing outreach and education to students.
- Participation on committees and in team meetings within Counseling Services
- Performance of a variety of other job-related responsibilities as requested
- Participation in weekly supervision
Minimum Qualifications
- Doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology, or in a related field, from American Psychological Association (APA)-approved doctoral programs is required. All requirements for a Ph.D. or PsyD in clinical or counseling psychology must be met and degree must be conferred prior to the start date. Completion of APA-approved clinical internship is also required.
- Demonstrated competence in crisis intervention, assessing need for psychiatric hospitalization, handling psychiatric emergencies, and supervising referral for inpatient care is required.
- Demonstrated excellence in using an evidence-based approach to psycho-diagnosis and treatment, including mastery of DSM-5/ICD10 nomenclature, and in understanding best practices in diagnostic evaluations and time-limited psychotherapy is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience working in a university mental health service or a comparable healthcare system.
- Prior experience in urgent care coordination and high-risk psychological evaluations.
- Prior experience with and/or additional training in the psychological care of late adolescents and young adults with the following subspecialties: eating disorders, DBT, group therapy, campus outreach, multicultural psychology and substance abuse.
