Job Description

We have several opportunities available as follows:

  • Part-time (0.4), continuing role based at the Mount Gambier campus
  • Part-time (0.4), continuing role based at the Roseworthy campus
  • Part-time (0.8), continuing role based at the City West campus
  • Part-time (0.6 FTE), fixed term contract until 31/12/2026 based at the City West campus
  • Part-time (0.9 FTE), fixed term contract until 28 February 2027 based at the City East campus
  • Salary range: $114,151 – $128,065 per annum (pro rata, plus 17% superannuation)

Work that matters

This role will report to the Senior Manager, Counselling and is responsible for:

  • Providing brief intervention personal counselling and support to students from diverse educational social and cultural backgrounds
  • Delivering counselling via face-to-face, telephone, online and crisis support to assist students with issues impacting their learning outcomes
  • Providing crisis counselling and risk assessments implementing appropriate therapeutic and crisis intervention strategies
  • Facilitating referrals to internal and external counselling mental health and medical or allied health services
  • Supporting triage and intake processes as needed including cover for triage counsellors to support students in distress or at risk

Experience

To join our community and thrive in this role, you will likely have the following skills and experience:

  • Postgraduate qualification or progress towards postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
  • Eligibility to register with the Psychology Board of Australia through The Australian Health Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and/or the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
  • Extensive experience in brief intervention counselling, risk assessment, crisis intervention, and case management
  • Demonstrated experience in online counselling and proficiency in using technology to deliver effective services and resources
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for working effectively with students and staff from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Broad understanding of the complex needs of students in a tertiary education setting, including equity and social justice principles
  • Experience in developing and facilitating workshops and mental health resources for individuals and groups
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and strategically with academic staff and contribute to strategic initiatives
