Job Summary / Basic Function:
Hiring is for one tenure-track faculty counselor, the appointment is at the Instructor level in the University Counseling Center. Salary is competitive and commensurate with academic preparation and experience. An excellent fringe benefits package is included.
The Counselor reports to the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Wellness or designee and is responsible for conducting individual counseling, group counseling, intake interviewing, crisis intervention, outreach, and supervision.
The successful candidate must be capable of and committed to student counseling, university service, and scholarship. Successful candidates will also have experience working with diverse populations.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Involvement with divisional, departmental, and/or other university committees.
- Develop programs and interventions related to the mental health needs of students.
- Complete documentation using an electronic medical record.
- Provide consultation to members of the university community as appropriate.
- Consult with other Counseling Center faculty concerning cases and referrals.
- Facilitate referrals to other university services and local agencies, such as community and mental health agencies.
- Conduct institutional research regarding Counseling Center activities.
- Supervise the training of students completing a practicum or internship at the Center.
- Attend professional meetings pertinent to the improvement of the Counseling Center.
- Attain/maintain licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
- Perform other professional and appropriate duties that support the goals and mission of the University Counseling Center.
Required Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
Minimum of Education / Training Required Education Summary:
- A master's or doctorate degree from an APA or CACREP-accredited program in psychology, or counseling is required.
- Current license in psychology or counseling in Pennsylvania, or another state within the U.S., is required. If this current license is outside of Pennsylvania, a Pennsylvania license must be attained within one year of hire.
- Two or more years of professional counseling experience is required.
- Demonstrated counseling experience working with a diverse population is required.
- Must be able to sit and verbally communicate for long periods of time.
Preferred Qualifications:
One year of professional counseling experience in a university setting.
