Job Summary:
Bucknell University is currently seeking an experienced Crew Leader to serve in a hands-on supervisory role. This position involves actively participating in the maintenance of athletic fields, excavation, paving, and refuse management. Responsibilities include scheduling, coordinating, and overseeing daily grounds maintenance operations.
The ideal candidate will have prior experience in grounds or athletic field maintenance, strong leadership abilities, and a solid understanding of tools, equipment, and safe work practices. Candidates must also be capable of performing physically demanding outdoor work in a variety of weather conditions.
Reporting Relationship:
Reports to the Grounds Manager, and directly supervises a team of Groundskeepers.
Work Setting:
On-campus; Ability to work in varying weather conditions.
Work Schedule:
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and overtime, to support university operations.
- This position is classified as part of essential services - report to work even if campus has a delayed opening, early closing, or is closed, unless instructed otherwise by facilities supervisor or when there are concerns related to personal safety.
What You Will Do:
- Supervises staff including assigning work and preparing and delivering annual performance reviews.
- Supports campus grounds maintenance, events, and labor needs, including but not limited to: turf management, mowing, trimming, tree care, snow removal, refuse collection, set up and tear down of event equipment, and moving heavy equipment and furniture.
- Performs daily inspections of grounds, athletic fields, and paving to identify and report maintenance needs.
- Recommends appropriate work methods, tool and equipment use, rule changes, and working conditions. Assesses training needs and conducts required training.
- Compiles bill of materials for new work and repairs, orders materials and supplies for ongoing work, and reports damaged, stolen, or missing items.

What You Will Bring:
Required:
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum 4 years of related experience
- Valid driver's license
- Pennsylvania Pesticide Applicator Certification
Preferred, But Not Required:
- Associate's degree in a related field
- Minimum 6 years of experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of athletic field maintenance, excavating, paving and refuse management
Physical Requirements:
- Outdoor work with daily exposure to a variety of weather conditions
- May experience frequent exposure to a high level of noise
- Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts of machinery or tools used to perform work, moving vehicles
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance
- May be exposed to conditions that affect the respiratory system, such as fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation

Salary Range: 22.70-28.38
The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate's credentials compared to the qualifications of the position, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy.
This role is not budgeted for visa sponsorship at this time, all candidates must be authorized to work in the US at the time of submission of the application.
