Culinary Instructor, Baking I - Cape Cod Community College
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide on campus instruction to students in Baking I course (CUL180) during the Spring 2026 semester. This is a hands-on introductory course that serves students in the Culinary Arts Certificate program as well as other academic areas and covers the principles of professional baking including: the chemistry of baking, terminology, scaling and measurement techniques, and equipment use. Students gain a detailed understanding of the components of various breads, cakes and pastry preparation techniques and baking. Emphasis is on proper production methods, baking methods and final product presentation and display.
Comprehensive instruction includes methodologies for students developing conceptual understanding, applying critical thinking and acquiring baking skills for a professional setting.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Provide on campus instruction utilizing educational technologies.
- Select and develop appropriate materials for class use to fulfill course learning outcomes.
- Track and assess student progress.
- Maintain appropriate attendance and learner records.
- Participate in ongoing professional development.
Job Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Culinary Arts, or a closely related field, with appropriate areas of concentration.
- Effective pedagogical, teaching, and presentation skills.
- Experience using evidence-based strategies to support student success including frequent communication and active learning.
- Ability to create a classroom environment that engages students and supports learning.
- Skill in using technology to support the teaching and learning process.
- Experience in a professional bakery.
- Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.
ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- College-level teaching experience.
- Professional development in teaching at the community college level.
- Skill using MOODLE or other Learning Management System (LMS) to support student learning.

Additional Information
COMPENSATION: Anticipated starting salary - Step I DCE Pay Scale. Part-time, non-benefited MCCC Unit position.
