The School of Mathematics and Statistics at UNSW is a leading centre for teaching and research in applied mathematics, pure mathematics, and statistics. The School is internationally recognised for research strengths in areas including optimisation, data science, stochastic modelling, algebra, and analysis, and delivers a comprehensive portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate programs across multiple disciplines. It is organised into three departments: Applied Mathematics, Pure Mathematics, and Statistics, and is supported by a large academic and professional staff community.

About the role

The Curriculum and Academic Calendar Support Officer role (internally titled Education and Teaching Support Officer) works within the School of Mathematics and Statistics to support a major academic calendar change project, transitioning from the current “3+” calendar structure to a flex-semester model scheduled for implementation in 2028.

Reporting to the School Manager, this 2-year fixed-term role plays a key part in coordinating implementation activities, supporting teaching and learning initiatives, and providing data-informed reporting and administrative coordination to support decision-making during the transition. Key responsibilities include:

  • Support delivery of academic calendar transition activities, including milestone tracking, risk identification, and process coordination
  • Coordinate meetings and take minutes
  • Develop communications, reports, and project updates, and maintain document repositories (SharePoint, Teams)
  • Prepare templates, presentations, and materials for briefings, workshops, and stakeholder engagement
  • Analyse and present data to support reporting, insights, and decision-making
  • Work with academic staff to support teaching and learning initiatives aligned with the calendar change
  • Provide advice on teaching and education processes in line with UNSW policies and procedures
  • Coordinate cross-school and university-wide processes and dependencies
  • Produce reports on student performance and outcomes to inform academic planning
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within teaching and learning support

About you

Although this role is internally referred as Education and Teaching Support Officer, the focus of this 2-year fixed-term position slightly differs from a standard ongoing support role.
