Position Highlights
The Custodial Supervisor oversees daily custodial operations to ensure university buildings and facilities are maintained in a safe, clean, and sanitary condition. This position provides leadership, training, and performance management for custodial staff while ensuring compliance with health, safety, environmental, ADA, and university regulations.
The role manages resources, schedules, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives to support efficient facility operations and high service standards across campus. May also work evenings and weekends based on University needs such as, special events, and emergent custodial services.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead, train, schedule, and evaluate custodial staff; set performance expectations, provide coaching, and support professional development to ensure service excellence and accountability.
- Directs the work of custodians performing cleaning tasks.
- Assists in supervising all requested custodial services at campus events.
- Schedules work to meet normal requirements without interfering with building occupants or students.
- Inspects buildings, classrooms, storage space, halls, fixtures, restrooms and custodial equipment of the work performed and results.
- Drives a University vehicle across campus to inspect the work completed in various buildings, deliver supplies to buildings, and transport custodians.
- Recommends materials, and equipment for assigned areas.
- Prepares a variety of operational reports and memorandums.
- Completes Career Conversations with employees annually.
- Oversee daily custodial operations and inspect buildings, rooms, storage areas, and public spaces to ensure cleanliness, safety, and compliance.
- Submits documentation regarding employee job performance and behavior.
- May meet with employees to issue disciplinary action.
- Coaches and mentors custodians to improve their job knowledge; provides high-quality cleaning services and encourages career development.
- Trains custodians and temporary staff on equipment operation, chemical usage, and cleaning schedules.
- Requests appropriate material, equipment, and supplies while operating within the established budget.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, ADA, and university regulations; coordinate inspections, address safety hazards, and manage incident responses.
- Performs other duties as necessary to meet the needs of the University.

- Knowledge of cleaning equipment, products, techniques, and standards.
- Proven team-building skills.
- Knowledge of budgeting and budgeting process.
- Proven organizational skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are required to build relationships and communicate information to other team members.
- Supervisory skills, management skills, such as, the ability to train new employees as required and evaluate staff.
- Knowledge of safety, regulatory compliance, and quality control standards.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Physical Requirement:
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs.

Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
Preferred Qualifications
- An associate degree with a minimum of four years of experience in custodial services.
- Two to four years of custodial supervisory experience is highly preferred.
