POSITION OVERVIEW

The job of Custodian is done for the purpose/s of maintaining an attractive, sanitary and safe facility for students, staff and public; providing equipment and furniture arrangements for meetings, classroom activities and events; and minimizing property damage, loss and liability exposure.

Essential Functions

• Arranges furnishings and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for meetings, classroom activities and special events.
• Cleans assigned campus facilities (e.g. classrooms, labs, offices, gym, restrooms, showers, theaters, grounds within 10' of buildings, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environment.
• Delivers various items (e.g. supplies, furniture, etc.) for the purpose of distributing materials to the appropriate parties.
• Evaluates situations (e.g. involving staff, students, parents, the public, etc.) for the purpose of taking appropriate action and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
• Inspects campus facilities for the purpose of ensuring that the site is suitable for safe operations, maintained in an attractive and clean condition, and/or identifying necessary repairs do to vandalism, equipment breakage, weather conditions, etc.
• Uses and maintains supplies and equipment (e.g. a variety of cleaning solutions, paper products, vacuums, mops, buffers, floor and carpet cleaning machines, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items required to properly maintain facilities.
• Prepares campus facilities for daily operations (e.g. opening and closing gates, building access doors, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring campus facilities are operational and safe for occupancy.
• Responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (e.g. facility damage, alarms, graffiti, etc.) for the purpose of taking appropriate action to resolve immediate safety issues and maintaining a functioning educational environment.
• Secures facilities and grounds for the purpose of minimizing property damage, equipment loss and potential liability to organization.

Requirements

1. One year of experience in custodial work; and
2. Equivalent of the completion of eighth grade; and
3. The ability to lift 45 pounds; and
4. A valid California driver's license; and
5. Demonstrated sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, disabilities and learning styles of community college students and staff.

Salary Information

FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Salary Range: SEIU Range 433
Full Salary Range: $24.68 - $38.55 per hour
Starting Salary Range: $24.68 to $27.20 per hour (Step 1 to 3).

Campus: Kentfield and Indian Valley Campus (Novato)
Full-time Equivalent: 1.0 - Full-time
Months per Year: 12
Work Days/Hours: Monday - Friday, 6:30am - 3:00pm, 40 Hours per Week
